Reinventing the transmission mount and possibly whole crossmember...

The Tcase adapter plate is buggered up.. on the “winter list” of items to either fix or or deal with... you can see the 2 holes that are plugged with RTV.. might be a better way to address that.

I also want a torque arm... the parts store rubber mount I don’t think is up to the task.. have a selection of parts and pieces to try and cobble something together..
because of the cage I knew I was in for some vibration.. but going to try and minimize.

Fitting the last post on this thread had the cross member down and jack under the transmission...
quick summary on that is I installed a torq arm and sealed up the bolt holes.. has been running great with reduced leaks.. but the front bearing retainer still an issue.

Jeep is about to have a minor procedure to fix some of last weekends mistakes.
It only took me 4 years, but I finally managed to get this truck into the woods for something serious.
Its been running great and my kids are finally old enough to enjoy a weekend long event. I attend the Catskill Jeep Jambo with my friends from TORQ LOCKER (hence the high quality photos) Jeep ran great. had it in the rocks more than I thought I would. Body and Tub came out unscathed, sliders and a spotter are surly a best friend in this situation.

But like any good wheeling trip there is a list of fixes and modifications that need to be done..

    Short list:
    - Finally fix or upgrade front shock mount. Ive neglected this since the day it snapped on pavement.. I knew my hack fix wasn't going to last forever.
    - Exhaust - the Y pipe is in dangerous territory for being smushed.
    - Skid plate - the factory skid was amazing, but its been used up and needs to be redesigned.
    - Need new poly bushings on some of the spring eyes. All the twisting chewed some up.

Longer list while I'm at it:
    - front bearing retainer on the T18 has been leaking for a while.. trying to motivate myself to drop the unit and seal.
    - Skid plate - I can straighten and work with what I have, but longevity is going to be with something a little more involved.

Some pictures.. videos are more impressive hearing the 360 whine like a Jet engine @ 94:1 crawl ratio

    Front Shock mounts finally addressed.
fairly buttoned up with this progect aside from final coating on the mounts themselves..
I will prob hot dip them with the next round of Rover parts I have done.

Its covered here Removing Shock Mounts
    but some pictures for reference:

So I think this is phase 2 since the Y pipe needs to come down..
problem is a lot of other things need to come down to..

Not a job I'm looking forward to.

I dont have exhaust problem since i have the side headers. Easier to work with, but it got some downside...

It will be on my spring list since i dont want to start to do mechanic while i have the plow on the jeep.

Got the tranny dropped over the weekend in enough time to get some part orders in.

Reverse shift fork pad was cracked so I decided to order a full seal kit and open up the top cover vent. Always a way to make an already big project bigger!

I bolted the trans mount to the jack itself to eliminate the needs for chains or ratchet straps. Worked great, was more annoying unbolting everything and keeping it organized.

Changed the spark plugs while the fenders are off but lost all other motivation tonight.. hopefully a push tomorrow.

driving great, still “sweating” some gear oil.

Need to replace a TRE and spring eye bushings..
calling exhaust shop tomorrow to discuss new Y pipe and better routing..

USB charging also high on priority list..

Your jeep still looks great, one of my favorites on the site. I gotta admit, hearing your checklist of tasks to complete has my nerves up, given how nice your jeep looks compared to mine. Sometimes I feel like mine will never be back on the road.

    appreciate it, really do..

my wife always says none of my cars work, they are always broken..
simple answer is these are 40 - 60 year old vehicles I play with.. cars just needed that much more attention then, especially when driven over rocks.

    Front Bushings done..
steering rod swapped out, chassis greased..

Going to back the truck into the garage tonight and take a good look at the rear

started chasing down some of the rattles as well..
strip caulked the underside of the trans cover..

not glamorous work, but somebody needs to maintain the fleet..

so my next question is, are you still happy with your Aqualu tub? I think you also started with a TDK frame, right? Worth it?

Aqualu is a great option, the best in my opinion.
nothing is marked or cut so you have the option to do whatever.. don't have to worry about fitment because you make it fit.. its way stronger than steel, lighter than steel, and its not fiberglass.
My goal was to be as close to stock as possible.. with the exception of the drive train (360/T18/Scout D300) everything is 1972-75 CJ (including the sheet metal) Frame is a later 1975 NOS frame, purchased out of Toledo.. so it has the updated cross member braces. I wanted to be able to have access to off the shelf parts, there is a lot to say about reliability and ability for other people to service if needed.

Best to leave good enough alone in my opinion.. this basic design has been around since 1941 and won a world war.. who am I to overthink things..

No more belt issue... on to the next one...

don’t really know why I was only running one belt on the AC/ALT for all this time.. I had to go back and remember my motor and belt drive is based off a 1991 Grand Wagoner, so getting the right parts is always good thing..

Re designed the exhaust again yesterday.

Used a Y pipe from a 76-78 Jeep CJ and tweaked the angle on the crossover pipe.
I know have a decent enough air gap between the crossover and the bottom of the trans.

going to have to design a skid plate to incorporate the crossover pipe for the future

This is why Jeep guys aren’t tuners...

had Howell burn a new chip for me to lean out the mixture a bit. Basically went back to a stock Wagoneer setup.

Popped the new chip in and it ran with a super fast idle. Drove it to cycle and learn, still not good. Called support, guy on vacation for a week. Went to swap back for the old tune and noticed this..

I would be shamed off any tuner board.
