OK, so I've been interested in that oddball vintage unique look. I've called places, tried getting something to work.

I want a mud terrain white wall tire. I tried calling Coker tire, then sending them to Treadwright to get re-treaded, everybody thought i was on crack.

So how about a set of these?

Anybody else out there, think this would look good on some KH steelies?

    Or, Am I crazy?

    Hi Long&Low,

I din't think you're crazy, I think it's a great idea. Plenty of photos of Jeeps in the late 50s into the 60s showed them with Town and Country or similar -- with whitewalls. But I can't find them anywhere. I do have a set of Portawalls on my Hilux 2wd (195/85-15) and they look great. Had to get one refitted after one day, but have done over 10000km since then with no problem. Get about one guy per week stopping me at the carpark or petrol station asking about them.

Let us know if you find anything, although for me in Australia the freight might be steep on a single set of tyres. No Australian distributors carry them and I haven't found anything in the US on the net.

    Good luck.

Hi Guys ..i like the look but i think you would have trouble with them staying on if you where to air down at all(as the web site states)..In Australia there is quiet a few companys that apply white(and other colours) to the walls of tires(so they would be doing it in the states)...not sure how wide a stripe they can apply but a narrow stripe is more like they where if you are after the factory look...i have imported 3 sets of tires so far from the U.S and they have been alot cheaper than buying here ...i have got 2 sets of 5 from universal tire and found them great..i reckon these would look great with a white stripe on them..i will be getting this done to my 1982 4door cherokee as soon as it turns 30:)cheers mike

    Yes. ;)

Aside from the look, the first time you drove up a creekbed with larger than basketball sized rocks, you'd ruin them.

These fake whitewalls were around in the 50s and 60s, back when whitewalls were a premium tire.

Oh no ... those us us in the know :? realize that a Hilux is a fine and very durable Toyota vehicle. The Hilux pickup was imported to the US in the 70s, though they dropped the name here for some reason.

In the Northeast, a HiLux would rust out so fast no one would even remember it unless you were the person that owned it.mehh

West Coast Customs did this with the wheel holding a whitewall ring. Similar to a bead lock without the bolts (no function either). Probably expensive but they wouldn't pop off like the portawalls could
