Yeah I used that same adapter. My valve covers clear just fine, but my engine is very low and the mounts wont work without modification (or lifting/dropping the engine). Looks very nice though! thanks! Your engine looks pretty low as well though.

I dont see how you can move the engine forward any.... thats my problem. I am as far foward as I can go without A) Having my shifters work in the floorboard, and B) my tranny shifter to not hit the dash when in reverse or 2nd.....

Yeah i had thought of that actually, but not really a body lift other that a hockey puck replacing the original mounts. I am more into getting the frame off the ground not just the body. But yeah I was thinking that as well, except that my tranny is at its max height with the floorboards.

Ahh! I just took 10-15 pictures of everything, and went to post them, and the forum wont let me. :(

You have to host them somewhere else and link them here. There is a thread in the site info on how to do it.

This is what I was thinking, too. My 70 is all stock (at least as far as the engine & radiator), & IIRC the bottom of the fan is about at the bottom of the radiator, and it's not a very big fan.

I know how you are feeling as I went thru the same thing with my 58 installing a v6. At first nothing seemed to fit and I was cussing up a storm. Then I stood back and took my time figuring things out. The biggest thing was putting all the pieces back on the jeep fenders, radiator, steering, exhaust manifolds, drive shafts and all of sudden the engine placed itself. Once everything is in place the engine really doesn't have much of an area it can go. This worked for me and so far am happy with the install. But once I got the motor place and steering converted along with swing pedals and power brakes I tore everything apart to paint the frame. I figured since I was in it this far, why not go all out. Right now everything is going back together and I should be on the road in a month or two.

BTW, I am using the stock radiator and mated my engine to a ford t18 to a dana 18 transfercase. I had to move the rear crossmember back about 1 inch. The clearance for the fan to radiator is fairly close and like I said that dictated where the engine went. I am also using fender headers and they also helped align the engine. They wouldn't fit without proper engine placement. Remembering just now that was the key for me. THe headers brought the engine close so the position I needed and then used the radiator clearance, firewall clearance to finalize the engine. Good Luck!

Here are some pictures... thanks for telling me how to do it

The space between the tranny and floorboard can be seen here.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

I'm gonna say you're looking good....
The fan will be at least 15" in diameter, so at least 7" of blade will be above the water pump.
Not being a 5 owner, doesn't the rad sit below the grille as well ?
I couldn't see real well, does the front driveshaft have clearance with the starter ?

Your engine is farther forward than the factory V6 was. My driver side valve cover sits ~1/2"-3/4" from the firewall.

The V6 top/ center panel must be shaped differently.

Yes - the V6 center is different, one of the reasons I put a 1" lift on it. You do need to go back and up with the motor. You can and should have a rear tilt to the motor.

Thanks for the post! I should have done all this while my body was off, but I put it all together and then ended up having to put a clutch in my 4 cyl, so I decided I would put a v6 in.

Yeah the radiator does go down to the frame coss-member there. And I do believe the driveshaft will be fine because I did SOA, and the shafts are at a much steep angle now.

Yeah thats what I am saying as far as I think that I am plenty far enough forward.....

Yeah.... thats my whole delema here.... why it is so low....?

Steering seems to be okay right now. exsaust I dont know about yet because my garage can make it up however and I figure that is easier to bend around corners than the engine lol. The steering seems okay at this present time.

and you know, that might be the exact reason I can not get it to go up farther...

Yeah it is forward all the way here.

I'd have to agree with a previous post that the engine looks really low in the front. It looks like it's up against the floorpan though. You should either try to get a V6 cover or make one that will allow you to raise the front of the engine. Don't let your shifters dictate where you have to put the engine. The tranny shifter can be heated and bent if you need to and it's relatively easy to make sheetmetal pieces to cover the t-case shifter holes and cut new ones. Just to give you some ideas.
