My 1970 cj5 did not have self adjusting.

I think all 10" duo-servo brakes are self-adjusting. That should include the 1966 through the 1971 model years.

My 66 had the 10" self adjusting, but I think 10" brakes were optional, or only on V6 models? So 9" manual adjust may be present on a 4 cyl.

my 1966 v6 is totally manual, and should be stock, as for 9 or 10 inch I'm not sure

My '69 had 10 inch brakes that had to be manually adjusted.

It's no wonder my FLAPS can never figure this out.

How do you know which type you have. Sorry for being ignorant on this one, but I am curious as to which type my '66 has.

If you have a metal cable that pulls up the metal thingy that turns the star adjuster then yours is mostly likely self adjusting. This is a photo of a LR 11" drum brake.

The 66 I've got has 10" brakes and they are manual. Don't know if the PO removed anything or not.

I'd be surprised if any of the 10" brakes had manual adjusters from the factory. Self-adjusting drums were used on nearly all cars by the 60s. Back in the day you could buy a kit to convert the automatic adjusters to manual adjustment. I did this to my '65 F-100; the backing plates were so worn that they would not self-adjust. Installing manual adjusters was a cheap but inconvenient fix.

Jeep sales literature from the era likely would announce self-adjusting brakes as a feature.

My 67 has 10" drums with manual adjusters too.
