Over the winter I would like to redo my jeep seats back to how they would have looked in 1969. So wondering if anyone makes an upholstery kit. I might need new foam also. I know you guys always come to the rescue. :v6:

if your looking for some seat cover try bestop they have a nice set for lowbacks front and rear. Takes a little work to get them snug, but for the money they are great and they are waterproof. Comes in tan or black vinyl type.

This question has come up several times. I have thought about filling this niche, but I'm not sure if it's worth while. (Old upholsterers never die, they recover).

Is there a difference between seat frame dimensions for various years? What about cover patterns? It's hard to find pictures of original seats.

What are people willing to pay for the covers? And new foam? If you ship 'em here and have me do it, what's that worth?

It's easy enough to bang out a dozen sets of covers using black UV rated vinyl, but the variables scare me away.

Well, it took me 3 weeks, and from Northern Colorado to darn near southern colorado to just fine 5 original rims. My seats are bastards, good original frames for my 1960 but the PO welded some other seats to them making them useless. I found a 67 in a junk yard in Denver, had both seats, well frames, the seats are trash. But now that i have good seat frames I am debating on what to do. There are some good after-market low backs, but, i am not thrilled with any of them. As usual, I have a good base to start from, but am not quite sure which direction I will take from here. I am a patient man, it takes time on things like this....

There always seems to a fair amount of interest in recovering seats. Shipping seats is fairly difficult and costly so I think most people would rather not ship their seats to have them recovered. The guy who was offering kits sold just the sewed covering including the hog rings and instructions for installing yourself. IIRC there were 2 basic styles for the early CJ5/6's (foam base and spring base) so it seems there would be 2 basic patterns. I would think there would be some market for them, especially if you could make them for the owner to install without too much difficulty.

At some point this winter, I would need black covers, and new foam. If original style can not be had I will get as close as possible with aftermarket. So if you decide to go forward eddiememphis, I would be a customer this winter. I would prefer a do it myself kit, due to shipping costs.

    Kurtopia,
I have a set of CJ seats(I think) that I bought on line for my 2A but they are too wide. I'm in Denver. I say "I think" because the passenger seat is the same as my 2A with pins so it can tilt forward but like I said it was too wide. The drivers seat mounts totally different than a 2A and again is too wide.
