Okay, did a search all over this site, google, you name it. Haven't come up with a double-lip seal part number for this thing.

Rebuilt the stock TH400 from my '73 Commando and need to find the right double-lip seal for the factory aluminum TH400-Dana 20 adapter before I can sling it all back in the vehicle.

Looks like the seal is 3-11/16 OD with the standard 2-7/16 TH400 shaft ID. Anybody know where to get one of these? There's no numbers on the factory one anywhere.

Parts monkeys can probably match up a single-lip if I bring it down there. Could run 2 of 'em back-to-back, but would prefer to use the stock replacement if possible.

If you're talking about these two seals that sit back to back

the part number is CR 24286. Don't forget to replace the O ring on the tranny output shaft too.

Thanks. I get a definite 3-11/32, but that 3-3/8 should press fit in there just fine.

Here's the factory aluminum adapter. Most I've run into have been cast iron.

Casting numbers. Believe this is Jan '73.

    Here's the cool one-piece double-lip seal.

It's got a new O-ring on the output shaft. I usually smear some RTV inside the spud shaft as well.

Do you mean 11/32 instead of 11/16???

I looked through the national, CR and SKF seal catalogs and none of them offer a double lip seal in ~2.4375 shaft x ~3.34375 bore. The closest to a true double lip that I found:

It looks like you're just going to have to double up unless you find a NOS one somewhere...

Yes. I'll edit my original to avoid confusion in case anybody reads my op down the road.

I had to recently locate some seals and ran across SKF's site and used it for research.

Here's some cross sectional views of the seal part numbers mentioned above.

The CR24287 that PbBelly mentioned: http://www.skf.com/skf/productcatal...indowName=null&perfid=703216&prodid=703216069

The CR24286 that Pack Rat mentioned: http://www.skf.com/skf/productcatal...indowName=null&perfid=703215&prodid=703215662

Just some different views of the same seals, with metric measurements.

There's a shop locally here that sells nothing but bearings and seals, been there 30 years and I've been going there since the mid 80's. I'd be willing to bet he could locate a replacement.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    no
    that's the GM/Jeep part number.
Almost all T400 internal parts, seals, adapters etc where the T400 was used in a Jeep application used 862xxxx tyep parts numbers.
Another example would be the Jeep/GM seal number you were asking about:
    8624117, Qty 2 required.
8624113 is the Jeep p/n for the adapter.

EDIT: I see the numbers in the circle you are refering to. Most likley, yes.

After looking at this picture again, I'm not sure that's a single seal. Are you sure that's not two seals face to face pressed tightly together? I think I see a parting line between the two lips, but it's hard to say from a picture...

There are two single lip seals. The original seals are quite a bit beefier looking than the ones they sell you to replace them. The ones in Dummys picture aren't the original and they're installed backwards, at least the outer one is.

I'll be dipped - you're right. That'll teach me for not running a manual transmission!

Wiped away the ATF residue and there's the seam where the 2 seals meet. Really, really fine. Just thought it was some weird factory seal.

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll go scrounge up the seals tomorrow and work on getting this pig put back together. See - that's why I use this username. :D
