Has anybody ever put a hydro-boost on a CJ with non-swinging pedals?
Already have added power steering so have that pump.
I'm thinking since there are kits to convert to dual master cylinders could you not just add the hydro-boost between? Or would you run out of room?

Hydroboost is different from hydrovac. Ken's post refers to a hydrovac - a common add-on for power brakes in the day.

Re a hydroboost, I think it depends on whether you can fit the unit next to the frame. They can be scrounged from your local pick-a-part yard. The Astro Van is a popular donor. I have one at home that I can post a pic of later.

There were slave vacuum boosters available in the day called a "hydrovac." Google the term and you'll find some discussion. There are similar setups available from hot rod specialty sellers that work the same way - a booster in the trunk or wherever is a slave to the master cylinder.

My first Jeep was a '64 Wagoneer. As I recall they had two type of hydrovacs.
Think they called them high pedal and low pedal. One had the conventional firewall mounted booster and the other had a remotely mounted booster that had a slave cylinder where the brake pedal would normally be attached.

I thought about using the remote but I have no idea where to find one.

Found this picture of a Astro hydroboost unit

The "JEEP" Hydrovac is a remote mounted unit.
The one I came across is mounted to the right front fender.
If I don't control myself I might end up buying the whole Jeep.

Not sure about adding one to a ECJ5, but the results of adding an Astro unit to my J10 was a HUGE, HUGE improvement in breaking. Length and potential interference with the clutch linkage may arise, but I would bet it could be done.

Check with Elliott over at IFSJA, he has some kits that he's done for various different models of Jeeps from CJ7s to Commandoes, to M715's. He's a back yard mechanic fabricator kinda guy, I'm not pimping a professional shop, nor do I get any referral kick backs. My kit from him, including the unit was about $175, a screaming deal if you ask me.

Well, it's hard to see, but thats a 98 Astro hydroboost unit (wife's DD). It looks like it might work-the whole unit is about 13" long. It mounts at about a 20 degree down angle because of the Astro's short hood, so you'd have to make an angled bracket to mount it to.

I'm also in the process of converting to exhaust manifolds from headers and finally found a center/rear dumping drivers side manifold. But it might limit how far forward I could go.

I doubt there's anything on it I need. (at least for my current project...) thanks for the offer though.

there's also the type of hydrobooster pictured below that doesn't have the canister on the side unlike the astrovan units. could work better in tight spaces.

i can't remember exactly what car i pulled this out of but i think it was a cadillac.
