which harness to purchase

    I've read a lot regarding choosing wiring harnesses. But just to make sure before I place an order... I'd appreciate your various suggestions on the best 18 to 21 circuit wiring harness for our '75, cj-5, 258, man. 4sp, v6, 4.2 l, jeep. thanks again.

    I just ordered the painless harness fro summit... this kit was recommended by the engineer at painless...... pre-terminated at both ends.

    I'd fix the factory harness. 1975 was the first year for a factory fuse box, instead of inline fuses. The factory used plastic loom for the entire harness, and you can keep the factory connectors. If your only problem is that the PO made a mess of the factory harness, then you definitely want to keep the factory wiring. Fixing the old harness is not difficult with a few simple tools and some inexpensive supplies.

    Having your Jeep wiring match the factory harness is a big advantage. If you rip out the factory wiring, then you will have to rely on the aftermarket wiring harness documentation, plus the thorough and detailed notes you are planning to keep.

    BTW it's an inline 6, not a V6. You can put that info in your sig so you don't have to list it each time you post.

    Thanks Tim, I think this is one step I'm going to look for a pro to help me with. I do have the factory harness that I was careful removing. I'll have it ready to go as soon as I locate somebody to help me out. What do you feel about the opportunity of adding some additional circuits, 18 circuit harness maybe? Also, would you recommend a body mount kit?, should I go stainless? Thanks, Ben

    Well, it was like a hundred years ago, but I used the Centech harness for the 76 and later CJ5. (late model GM column) on my 74. As I remember all wires were labeled every few inches, high quality fitting and components, connectors, good directions ect. ect.

    The only thing I know about DC power is that if you put a 9v battery on your tongue it feels kinda funny. So I can do it so can you!

    Take a look at the Cetech.

    I also went with Centech. Great customer service, great product. I did do my own terminating. It was not an easy project but I was able to have a little more freedom since nothing was pre-terminated.

    Why add additional circuits? What equipment do you need that is not provided for already? If you need a lot of additional circuits, you're better off to add a secondary panel.

    Can't help you with the body mount kit. Stainless - up to you. To me, that's an appearance item.
