Quick seat question

    Mudweiserjeep JEEP: Bouncy and Fun

    On a stock CJ (ECJ) drivers seat. What is the distance from the floor to the bottom of the seat? (Top of the bottom...where your butt sits):rofl:. I need to fab some new seat mounts.

    Could someone measure for me?

    Don't know about from the floor up. Mine isn't stock.
    However from the bottom edge of your stock steering wheel to the top front edge of the seat is 7 inches. That fact I gleamed from one of the other jeep sites and I will attempt to find which one. It showed all the demensions for the early CJ5.:hurrican::coffee:

    Just stepped out and measured. The gas tank is 6 1/2 inches top to bottom, the bar the seat sets on is 4 and 3/4 above the tank. Too hot to stand out there bare foot at the moment. 105 in the shade. Problem is - there is no shade!

    With a level on the front (closest to the steering wheel) pointed front to back:
    Front: 16" from the floor
    Back (transition to back rest): 2.5 below level

    This is for a bench seat in a 65, CJ-5A, with a seat cover.

    What do you have between the leading top edge of the seat and the bottom of the steering wheel?:coffee:

    Maybe.
    How different could the stock seats be?
    Athough you don't need space for the gas tank under yours.
    Do they sit lower? or higher? or does anyone know, really?
    just curious.:tea:;)

    Also, being as I forgot you have the CJ6, are the seats even placed in the same position back from the dash and firewall as the 5? Much more potential for 6'6 guys to have leg room there.

    There are two main seating styles - pre and post '64-ish. The older ones are coil sprung and the frames are integrated. The seats cushions themselves are quite a bit thicker. The passenger side doesn't fold - just pivots forward. Post '64 the seats are foam-based, the cushions are thinner, and the seat frames are external. The passenger side folds and tumbles.

    I got SSDutch with the early style:

    but sold them and used the later style that I had in Dutch as they are more comfortable and I wanted the fold and tumble:

    Yes - as Patrick said in stock form the seats are placed the same. The only differences with the 6 were anything necessary for the longer wheelbase - so frame, body, rear driveshaft etc. Everything else remains unchanged from the 5.

    But - definitely more potential for legroom. Look at the angle of my legs in my avatar and keep in mind that I'm 6'3". ;) I moved all the seats back when I had the rollcage made.

    The only downside is that you end up sitting behind the door - not so bad with the top is off but a bit strange with the top on.

    I see in the picture that you have one of the bars right across the toolbox.:shock:
    So yours is not even accessible?:hurrican:

    And how does that tie into your frame?
    How high are your seats from the floor now? To the seattop, I mean.

    As my wife would put it - "Nice Yeep-Yeep!"

    Yes it is - I run it without the hinge pins so the lid just snaps in place and removes for access. Actually the rollcage builder started the build with trying to keep that door accessible then found out down the road that the seat mount needed to be there. The floor structure could have been greatly simplified otherwise.

    It doesn't.

    I've posted at length on this before but I don't think it's necessary (especially with having the seats tied into the cage), and - without designing some kind of frame tie-in that accommodates frame flex - I think frame tie-ins can lead to cracked frames as they cause parts of the frame to be more rigid than others.

    ~ 16" from the floor to the top surface of the lower seat cushion.
