(Nervously standing by awaiting test drive report. I'm sure it's fine judging by the condition of the innards, just wish I could've test drove it first.) :lurk:

I'm about to do the same thing, install an offset flanged axle. What size are the u-bolts? I'm trying to track down everything I need before I get started.

I can't remember off the top of my head, I know it's in the tech section, I just asked about a month ago. I need to add it to the tech library pages.

Similar inquiry: did you use the same U-bolts? (i.e. Are the flanged U-bolts the same size as the 2-piece?)

    1. I'd never reuse axle u-bolts.
    2. They are a different size, the tubes are larger, the spring plates are also different as a result.

Saturday while torquing down the u-bolts one somehow got screwed up and wouldn't tighten and when I removed it, it chewed up the threads all the way down the bolt.

Brakes are bled though and the diff is cleaned out and ready to be filled. Gotta order another new U-bolt.

Ok, finally got around to getting the new U-bolt.

Put it in, torqued everything down and started the Jeep....

Yeah, that's right, the water pump is going bad. Stupid squealing thing. It's no wonder I smell antifreeze but can't see anything wrong. It wriggles a good 1/2" up and down when I grab the fan.

BUT! The rear axle seems to check out!!!!!!

Brakes feel better than they did before, they were good before, seem better now though, thanks to board member Spoon for helping me bleed them.

:goes to find new water pump:

Yeah, on the last run it seemed to run hot, granted it was hot out, but it seemed the Jeep was hotter than usual.

Need to get one before Sat. so I can go out with Clint for the last time. :)

Hmm, problem is I need to be up and running by Sat. for a trail ride with Jayhawk. :(

Do you have that in Pete? I might have to consider it anyway.

BTW, thanks for the spring plates Rocky. :D

I think you can skip the flow cooler. FLAPs should have a replacement for about $30. Take your old one with you and watch for the long vs short style. Don't ask how I found out. Although I do have a new free long shaft pump that you can have for shipping.

NAPA shows them on their webpage, new for ~$45. Remans for ~$25.

Different part numbers than for the 231. I checked. ;)

Glad you could put them to use. Yeah, I replaced the old pump w/ a Flowkooler. I can't yet speak to the performance, but I do know the old hot rod guys would weld on cavitation plates so they wouldn't overheat while cruising the strip. Should be a good upgrade for trail riding in the summer.:v6:
