I am in need of a new pump, the current one leaks like mad....

Looking at the quadratec catolog they only list a power steering pump from 77 and up. Would this be what I need? Or was there some thing different for my 75?

    Thanks,

    Kent

You have to make sure what style hose fittings you have on your pump.

If it is an original set up on your 75 ,it should have the FLARE style pump fitting (72-79).
If someone swapped it on before you , they MAY have put the later Oring style pump set up from the later CJ's (80-86)

Do a check before you buy one , save you some trouble. Here is a couple pictures , FLare style on the left ORING on the right.

As always, thanks for the input! I will pull the pressure line off and have a look at what I have. Then I'll call FLAPS!

If you cannot find the power steering pump with the flare fitting , you can take your old one off and swap it onto a new pump that has the oring fitting . (Be careful there is a spring loaded valve and screen /filter under the fitting , if you go that route ). They are on tight but they do come off

Just make sure if you do this you take it off before you turn your old pump in fore a core charge.

OK, thanks to you guys I did not order a wrong pump..... I do indeed have the o-ring style, so that would be an 80 and up pump. Now part 2....how do I get the pulley off of the pump? I see a 3/8" allen on the front, looking in my FSM it lists a puller...... So any suggestions?

After having the pump out of the Jeep I see why it was leaking so bad, the bearings are gone....

parts store could/should supply the tools
    pulley remover
    pulley installer
    resist the jaw puller urge

I got you on the puller, but does the allen bolt need to come out first or not?:?

the puller threads into the ps pump shaft, so if there is a bolt threaded in there for some reason, it should be reomved.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

no bolt to remove if I recall
the allen is used to just hold the shaft and keep it from turning
the pulley presses on and off, no bolt holds it

Hmmmmmm, well I can not seem to break the allen bolt loose......

This is on my 75, although the pump is an 80 an up.......:?

I guess I will try a puller next and see what happens.

OK, last question on the PS stuf......

I have some crazy ozark enginering brackets for my PS pump.... I saw this picture and see how things are supposed to look. I hope it is OK that I modified your picture, if not please let me know. Any idea where I could pick up some of these brackets for the pump?

It is not an allen bolt! Do not try to loosen it. The shaft is milled in a hex at the end. But it should be threaded 3/8 X 16 further down in the shaft. Pull the pulley with a puller then press it on with either the supplied bolt and square nut or the press part of the puller.
This should be a saginaw pump and all the manufacturers used them for years. They are all made the same in this regard.

Ohhh, I didnt realize thats what you were talking about, sorry. My brother grenaded the PS pump on my cj 3 years ago doing donuts in the sand:rofl: , and I went throuh 3 pumps and 2 auto trans in-line filters before I got all the metal shavings out. I've got the PS pump change down to a 20 min job at this point. With the puller its not a hard job at all.
