Oil

I did a search for oil and came back no matches, now I probably did something wrong, because I'm sure this has been talked about to death
got a coupon for synthetic oil $.99 a quart and I want my old F-heads
to last as long as possible, so if there are any oil experts out there. What is the best oil to be running in these older engines im sure everybody has their favorite oil brand. But I would really like to know the technical end of it.

it will be interesting to see what you come up with,although i think the key to it is change and change it often,and keep it toped off

 

I do change the oil probably every thousand miles, but it can get expensive. For somebody living on Social Security disability. So I was wondering if the $.99 synthetic oil would be good or bad for the engine

if your changing it every thousand miles or so I think remanufacred oil would work well enough. I like using straight 30 wieght but lately have become convinced that 5w30 probably easier as far as milage just about all brands seems to be about as good as another. I haven't seen any .99 sythetic oil but would like to.

 

The $.99 synthetic oil is on sale at Checker auto parts, what is remanufacture
oil I don't think I've ever heard of that. I do know that the heavier oil makes the engine work harder. Does anybody know what the original manufacturer back in 1955 recommended. Is anybody old enough. Or maybe their father had told them what the best oil to use was

IIRC oil for 1955 engines was 30 wt and something like 10 or 20 wt in colder climates. Remanufactred oil is just used oil that has been cleaned and resold. Don't have a checkers closed by thats why I haven't seen it but if I did I'd bet that's what I'd be using just because of the price.
