Jeepster frame and fenders

I found a Jeepster in the next town over that isn't necessarily for sale, but I'm pretty sure the owner is in need of cash and is about to move away from the area. The guy really doesn't even have a clue what a jeepster is. I think he got it from a relative for free or something. The body looks mostly like junk, but I think the frame is straight. I'm pretty sure I've read on here that Jeepsters have the same frame as a 6, I think Boyink posted that, but I don't think the thread specifically dealt with that issue, so I couldn't find it in the search. Anyway, suppose I had available an early 5 front clip and this (60's I think) Jeepster. Would the tub bolt up to make an early looking 6, or would there be a lot of fab work necessary? What other differences would I run into?

Alternatively, if I wanted to use the jeepster fenders on my 5 in order to ditch the marker lights, how many holes would I have to fill?

Jeepster frame and a CJ6 are different
    The Jeepster is wider

News to me that it was wider. I knew that they had an additional but on the rear, thanks to LWB here. Heck, I owned one and forgot that tidbit. Didn't know they were wider as well.

Clint, the fenders will have the extra little bit on the bottom for the rocker panels that you'd need to remove. Probably have holes where the grille set to fill right on the top in front.

I thought they were the same width. I'd bet to use the Jeepster fenders, all you would have to fill are the holes on top, where the grill extensions from the Jeepster used to bolt, as Sparky said....

They should be the same width (I hope so, as I have a CJ6 frame section to fix my Jeepster). The Jeepster rear spring mounts are outboard of the frame, the CJ mounts are under the frame. The Jeepster is longer than the 6 (I'm guessing about a foot) and I believe the crossmember is in a different location. There are a few other minor differences that I can see between the two.

Roger on the fenders. I think I might give them a try since I need to fix my driver's side, anyway, and I was wanting to lose the side markers.

Moving spring mounts are no big deal. My '70 is giving me plenty of practice at that:rofl:. I'll measure the frame width. I could deal with the crossmember. Where is the Jeepster longer? Is it at one of the ends where I could just cut the extra foot off?

Another fender difference is the lack of a cover plate over the seam, the CJ had one, the Jeepster doesn't, but it's just cosmetic. Hood tie downs will be in the wrong place on the fenders, so holes there to fill. The Jeepster fenders actually flare out at he bottom and are longer, so bodywork there.

I thought I understood that the early M38A1s didn't have that cover over the seam and it was deemed to be a weak spot. Kaiser put the patch panel over it to fix that issue. Never understood why the Jeepsters didn't have that panel though.

Frame length is tacked on the rear Clint, you can still find that thread somewhere in here with pics.

Just measured both frames to make sure and they are th same width. Body mount look to be different as well as the spring mounts. The front cross memeber is a little different as well as the locaton of the clutch/brake linkage. A lot of little stuff that IMHO are going to add up, but its do-able.

Thanks for the legwork. I'd be using hanging pedals, so clutch/brake linkage wouldn't be an issue. I figured the body mounts would be different. CJ6 just seem hard to come by in my neck 'o the woods.

The negotiating process has gone from "It was a gift from my dad" to "I could really use the cash for my upcoming trip." Even if it falls through, I've got PLENTY of other projects to keep me busy. This is more or less a "someday" idea that I'd like to start assembling parts for and sticking them in the shed.

I bought a rusted out jeepster and used the front crossmember and v-6 motor mounts to convert my '59 cj5 from a 360 to a 225. I also used the grill and hood on the '5 everything fit like a glove. I'm not crazy about the look, but it sure is different!
