What's the proper procedure for the lock ring on a fuel tank for a 66 V6?
New sending unit has a bunch of sheet metal tabs that screw into top of the plastic tank. Service manual doesn't have this type of sender service procedure in mine.

'66 has under-seat tank, with a bolt down sender. So you must have a later under-bed tank?

I have the under seat tank. V6 style sender with vent line. Lock ring with tab type not the 6 hole style.

Ok, I had never seen that type of tank sender, I'm assuming aftermarket tank?

I know 69-70 with under seat tank have the several held in with a lock ring. Not sure when this change occurred.

My early '69 (flat top/bottom wiper windshield, small parking lights, no turn signals) has the bolt-in sender without a return line. My guess is the change happened mid year '69.

So then the lock ring under seat tank was only used for approximately one year, mid 69 till mid 70 when the tank moved to the back.

If you have the plastic tank from MTS, they came up with the screw tabs as a method to hold the lock ring type pick-up/sender unit like this. I have their model 0042 and it does work if you install per their instructions.

    Yes it's a MTS.
I got it in a huge garage full of jeep stuff...
    No instructions. LOL
I put it in today but had to bend the little tabs to put more pressure on the sender and gasket. Seems ok .
I thought it was a lock ring type but it has a ring that just holds down with the tabs not by twisting the ring to seal the gasket.
Also I hate the way the gas cap fits to the neck. Does not seal well.
I will be trying a different one to see if I can get a good seal.

    Thanks for the reply!
