What are your guys preferred methods for washing your jeep. The traditional hose method is kind of tough to do with a permanently topless/doorless CJ-5. Anyone just “spot clean” their jeep with all-purpose household cleaners? Bad for paint? Is soapy water in a spray bottle > water spray > towel the right move? Appreciate any suggestions.

Grab a bottle of quick detailer and a couple microfiber cloths. That is, If the paint is in good shape and you want to baby it.

Otherwise, just pop the drain plugs on the floor, throw a towel over the seats, and try not to directly spray the dash or seats with your hose. Should be just fine.

Before i gone a full soft top i just used a pressure washer to rinse the outside. Very little overspray made it into the interior

I take my Jeep to the coin op car wash all the time, and wash it inside and out. I dont use the hi pressure spray on the dash.
Take along a big trash bag to cover the seat, or you'll have a wet butt on the drive home.

I have no problem hosing out the interior, just go easy around the speedo cluster.

I still remember the amazement I felt as a kid, realizing Jeeps had drain holes in the floor.

That's probably the moment I caught the bug.

Don't pressure wash the gas cap. X2 for bagging the seats. Avoid the steering column and shift canes. Don't hose out under the dash or directly on any switch. Avoid the air intake.

I’m pretty lazy when it comes to cleaning vehicles. If the Jeep has been sitting a while, I’ll blast the interior with a leaf blower. And I keep an old rag in the Jeep to wipe dust/dirt/cobwebs as needed.

I don't really drive in mud, so I never wash my jeeps/trucks. I just wipe the windows and mirrors down when they start to get noticeably dusty/dirty, and occasionally wipe the headlights and tail lights down. I don't think I have ever entirely washed any of my jeeps/trucks. I don't have a garage for any of them, they stay outside, most of them under inexpensive car canopys.

Particularly in the fall, I use compressed air and a vacuum to get leaves and stuff out of the interiors, and then throughout the year just towel down the seats.

X2 on air or leaf blower on front foot wells. I pressured washed those and the spray bounced up and got all my electronics muddy behind the dash. Was really clean and easy to read wires before, now it’s all a mess.
