It could also be a clogged idle circuit ?

Yes, it would’ve kept running but it dies eventually either way. So i guess option 2! I’ll check the float height again, but when I took the top off of the carb the bowl was pretty full. How do you recommend I check the pump pressure? I’ve taken the carb inlet line off and cranked it and it shot fuel pretty good.

The FSM explains it precisely. Both pressure and volume. For a Carter Yf, the static pressure should be about 2.5 or 3 psi.

But first off, "pretty full" means nothing to a carb. The float height must be set very precisely, and according to which float valve is used.

My '56 F-head was having a problem that turned out to be the soft tip of the valve needle getting sticky, due to age and/or ethanol. It wouldn't open until the float dropped way down.

It won’t run. Giving it any throttle will kill it. I can try with my foot to the floor next time, I’ve been nervous about that lol

I know it sounds strange, but I've had bad ignition points and/or poor timing cause that. Might be worth checking, and is the first step in any tune-up by the book.

That was my first thought too, confirmed after watching the video.

I can't help but wonder if it has a bad condenser. I had one go bad and act pretty much like described.

I replaced the condenser a while back, it came with a distributor rebuild kit.

Gotcha I’ll double check all of that and let you know what happens!

9/10 new condensers seem to be faulty for whatever reason. do you have the old one to try?

It used to be change the condenser and toss the old one when doing a tuneup now it's don't touch that old condenser unless it doesn't run.

If it is a bad condenser it will cause the points to burn, so they will need tuning up regardless

Go to NAPA. Get the Echlin/Blue Streak made in Mexico.

I check the capacitance of condensers when installing new or having a mystery problem. Most meters have a function to check that size. If needed, I can scrounge up how to check with an ohmeter

I don't get scientific enough to check "the capacitance of condensers", a good one is a good one, and the Blue Streak brand of points and condensers are good ones.

That is all I will use, and never had any problem with them. The imported crap some suppliers sell are not worth taking out of the box.
