I have made some progress on the MTS tank install. I tack welded in 2 elevator bolts, one for the body mount, one for the muffler hanger. Unfortunately I was out of acetylene so I tacked them with my stick welder using 3/32 dia 6013 rod at 65 amps. I only blew through the body about 3 times :banghead:. I globbed up the holes with some more weld which closed the hole but made for a bumpy tack weld. So then I ground the heads and welds down smoothly. Then I slathered both places with a thick coat of my old friend JB Weld.[IMG]

Then I put on a coat of paint to hide the evi.. err prevent corrosion.

I still needed to level it up a bit. So I bought my wife a new HDPE cutting board and grabbed one of the old HDPE cutting boards out of the kitchen drawer. I cut it to shape and bolted it down with some 1/4" stainless flat head machine screws. Then I stuck down some 1/8" thick felt furniture pads in the places where the tank was touching.

With the tank in place I put pipe hanger strap across it in two places. I put some more felt pads on the corners then covered them with pieces of old shelf legs. I then attached the pipe hanger strap using an inverted 3" long 1/4" hex head cap screw in the front so I could tighten as needed. I tightened them up to where they twang at about "middle C" on a piano. The tank is now mounted solid. I am waiting on the 6 way valve to arrive, then I can work on the plumbing. I also need to wrap some pipe insulation around the front of the tank straps so they don't rub the driver's heels.

Been blasting the back of my cj with coal slag from tractor supply and started patching a few dents and a little rust.

using filler and epoxy primer since I don’t yet have a welder.

Drivers side has already been patched and primed with the epoxy primer.

    Here’s the before pic…

    Here’s the after pic…

Also sandblasted behind the panel and coated with por15.

Still have the surrounding area of the tailgate and passenger side to go.

Just doing a small bit at a time so I can keep enjoying driving it.

first time doing this so please be gentle :)

Seriously, always open to suggestions :)

I sent a message to the folks who run the swap meet. Hopefully they will know the guy that sells the knobs.

I hope you don’t go through U-joints like I do. That looks like work to swap ’em out.

The flanged offset is ready to be transplanted. New 5:38, Aussie locker, new wheel bearings and seals. 11" brakes with parking brake. Knocked off the loose stuff and thoroughly coated with shake n shoot. Used up my partial cans, 3 different types of black  whatever. Get the ebrake handle sorted, a couple of odds and ends ready for CO and Utah.

Just wondering, do you have a source for the bolt access plug in the axel flange? I tried to find a freeze plug that would fit but it appears to be an odd size hole.
