    Hello,
Working through a OVERDRIVE installation on a Dana 18 T/C. My question is after removing the cover and nut on the input shaft I’m having trouble removing the input gear. The transmission is in R as suggested but the gear only slides out a little. Seems to want to stay with the gear just to the right of it. (See picture) any thoughts on how to wiggle this input gear off the shaft? Thank you.

No see photos but I assume the gear the the right is the intermediate gear. Is the t-case in neutral? That will allow the intermediate gear to turn and the main drive gear should slide right off.

I just did this a few days ago, the gears are helical cut, so as said above, they need to be in neutral to kind of turn as it slides off the transmission shaft.

    Suggested by whom?

As stated the TCase needs to be in neutral to allow the gear to move when installing or removing the input gear, or the bowl gear of the overdrive. You will only need to put it in gear when you are removing or tightening the nut, which needs to be torqued to spec.

Thank you. Just wanted to check with the pro’s before I did something wrong. That was on my mind but wanted to double check.

Appears to be a considerable amount of slack in the splines between transmission shaft and gear.
    maybe its just the angle.
