Dana 25 Front Axle Restoration Guidance

    I only have three notes:
    1. The front axle was the first thing I dug into on my jeep when I had no idea what I was doing (as if I do now) and it was pretty simple and I used alot of loaner tools from autozone, etc.
    2. I had mine hot dipped to clean it, but left the ring and pinion in it because I didn't want to have to reset the gear mesh. I think this was a mistake since it left crud in there which probably ate up new seals and new bearings which I have had to replace ($$).
    3. Also, unless you are going period restoration, you may think about investing your time and money into a Dana 30 rebuild or a Roxor front axle. I see dana 30s with disk brakes come up pretty frequently where I live, and the thought of bolting up a new Roxor axle with new seals/bearings/disks and a warranty sounds really easy.

That's a bug in the forum software. I changed the name to Dana30ServiceManual.pdf, and the link says that. When you click on it, it sends you to Dana27ServiceManual.pdf, which is the old name. Here's the same link, which should work - https://www.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/~reese/Dana30ServiceManual.pdf

My fault, I thought it was the D27 and Tim set me straight.

I do have an older PDF version of a manual and the attached diagram for the D27.

Well damn. That really does sound like a muuuuch easier option. I’d be certainly OK going that route, and would save me a ton of headaches. I wonder if I could keep my OEM steering.

A local guy was able to get it with 5.38s already installed since it is a new option for roxors which is probably what you have based on year. I’ll ask him how the install went since I’m curious as well. He had stock steering on his 3b.

Thanks everyone to your feedback and recommendations. Very very much appreciated!!!!

the roxor axle is a direct bolt on for $1,300. This upgrades the axle, and gives me disc brakes. My understanding is the only modification I may need is longer tire rods. That’s not anything to worry about and a simple fix
