Not losing the tiny check ball under the Accelerator pump is the hardest thing about rebuilding a 2G.

It looks like that is one of the short ones? I’d recommend a left handed drill bit, then an ezout if the bit doesn’t do the trick.

Shoot it with penetrant oil while you’re waiting for the left handed bit to arrive.

If the left handed bit doesn't work and you resort to an EZout, a little heat from a propane torch will help a lot.

In fact, there is enough sticking out that cutting a screwdriver slot in it with a dremel and using some penetrating oil along with some heat may get it out without drilling.

Personal preference.....but I would weld a nut on what is left of the bolt.

Hit it with Deep Creep and weld a nut to it. The combination of the fluid and heat, plus the nut, should be a winner.

after drilling and praying I was able to get the bolt out without messing up the threads to much. Was able to touch up the threads and were good to go.

Got the new water pump on. Was my first time sealing up a gasket 100% on my own. Only time will tell hahaha.

I don’t believe I have the wrong hose, or my radiator has a 90’ when it should kick out straight.

Here’s the old hose that was on it.

Here’s the new one that’s supposed to be for the cj5.

anyone recognize the old hose? Maybe it’s off a commando or something? Or another 225 model.

    Looking at the possibilities -

    1966 JEEP CJ5 3.7L 225cid V6 Radiator Lower Hose | RockAuto

Gates shows two possible hoses, one that's cut-to-fit (17") and another that's supposed to fit exactly. The Dayco 70369 is labeled cut to fit, which indicates it should be longer than the factory equipment. Possible the old hose was picked off the rack because it was the best match to what was there. I would not assume that the old hose is "correct" for this application.

This one just won't reach, or the bend is completely wrong? Listed is a Delco and a Gates that are 17" long, which may be enough if you simply need extra length.

All back together! No leaks cooling system seems to be good. Rebuilt the carburetor. Kinked the fuel line. So fuel lines are next. Didn’t think the kink was too bad. But when I was test driving every time I got up into the rpm the engine would cut out. Stop and restart the Jeep and would idle great. Overall runs way smoother and happier with the throttle.

At this rate I’ll have the Jeep rebuilt by the end of the year haha

Yeah, and what happened to the old ones?

  17. I still have them. Just got a good deal on new steel and the old ones were pretty ripped up. Looked a lot better in photos then reality.

  18. Today I fixed the kinked fuel line, went around and test drove. Night and day better runs like a champ now. I’m having clearance issues with the oil bath air filter. Where the choke cable is getting stuck. Is there supposed to be a gasket between the filter and carb?

next I think I want to tackle the floors. They are not too bad. But I feel I need to patch a little bit.
