    hey guys

does anyone know the exact oil capacity in quarts for the 225 v6? i was guessing about 4.5-5 quarts overall.
(my dipstick is missing/broken) i've rigged up a dipstick to read in the "full" range when i put in about 4.5 quarts. i did a search on the forum and didn't yield any results.

also for those of you driving this motor regularly. what kind of mpg's are you pulling off? i've read in a couple articles they are known for better than average fuel economy (for what they are). i'm not expecting it to get anything miraculous. but i think mine is profoundly inefficent because my carb needs a rebuild and adjustment. i'll be able to confirm that when my fuel sending unit arrives...i'll keep it updated.

    thanks
    Paul

if you're wondering why i'm worried about the mpg's...i'm one of the cross country flatfender guys. haha
we're leaving on the 15th, check out the site if you get a chance. thanks again.

    4 quarts + 1 for the filter.
As far as mileage I have never gotten better than about 16.5-17 mpg in mine.

Over the weekend I ranged from 16.5 to 18.9 during our trip to Dallas. Wind has a big effect on my mileage. The 16.5 was against a headwind.:v6:

I guess in your case it's 4 then, according to you.
there are about 8 different size oil filters that can be used on the V6, maybe more.
Some are smaller in diameter than others; some are shorter in length than others.
does that make up the difference of 1 qt, most likley not.
FYI, mine says full with 5 in the pan.
I think the FSM states 4 with filter if I recall.

I have the factory dip stick it says 4 on it, but if you put 4 quarts only in it you're gonna need to add about another quart to bring the dipstick up.
And yea the oil filter on my 225 will hold about twice what the 231 filter will.

what speed were you driving? 18mpg isn't as bad as a lot of SUV's and pickups now that I think about it.

Posted speed limit, 60-70 mph. I have an intermittant miss in one of my plugs too. Ordered splitfires from Quadratec but they sent the wrong ones. Got some coming from Summit by the weekend. I bet I can see 20 mpg out of them. FYI I drive for maximum mileage (real easy on the throttle, upshift early, and run my OD constantly).:v6:

Different engine but last year my 231 got 20mpg on a trip to the mountains. All highway driving around 65mph. Way better than my 96 GMC or 98 Suburban!

I regularly got 20 mpg on the highway averageing about 62 mph with 3.73 gears, 31" tires, and the overdrive engaged. Now that I have installed 5.38 gears, I can travel comfortably at 54 mph, and my mileage appears to have dropped to about 18-19 mpg. I have not confirmed this yet with a gps unit, however, since my speedo is now off.

By the way, going to HEI ignition did not seem to improve power or mileage.

I still run an oil bath air filter. Not sure how this may affect things.

I am in California and few months ago I started on 1951 M38 it came with 134 and t 90 and D18 . Later on I came across v6 dauntless odd fire with a t90 and D18 with OD . So I am attempting to install the v6 and attach SM420 and then install D18 with the OD . I made few calls to Novak and advance adapters and had conflicting answers. My question is will the SM420 bolt to the v6 bell housing? Do I need a different fly wheel and clutch plate and throw out bearing and clutch linkage ? The second question is will the D18 with OD bolt to the SM 420 with a special adapter to fit the OD ? The third question is would the front drive shaft hit the starter ? How far forward should I mount the v6 on the frame ? I know it’s many questions. But I thank you in advance if you can direct me in the Wright direction.
