Looking For Bikini Top Pics That Covers Back Seat

I have a really nice Best top soft top that I've taken all the windows off of and want to make it a full length bikini top that offers shade over the rear seat. This means I need to fab up some sort of support for the rear. I'm thinking of making it out of small 3/4" or 1" tubing (not a family cage just a shade support). But it has to look cool. Any pics of a setup like this?

For reference it's going on this

Assuming you're not working with a Supertop? Which kinda does what you're looking for. Otherwise top bows should be easy to fab up.

Or make a rectangle out of sunbrella attached to the cage and some sort of rear support. This will allow you to fold the windshield down.

The Bestop Supertop should have a support frame that consists of two bars that mount with a single bracket along the top of the tub: one vertical directly above the rear of the driver seats, and one that goes back at an angle to support the back rear corner of the top. Seems like those could easily be used as is for a bikini top that attaches along the front windshield channel.
ps - I probably have one available if you are looking (PM me)

This picture should give you an idea on how the Bestop Supertop looks without the doors or windows installed:

I have both the super top ($1000) and a bikini top($55). While I know you can take off the doors, side and rear curtains, it still does not give the open feel of the bikini top for good weather AND does not have that bar that I keep banging my head on as I get in and out. I bought a second bikini top (they are relatively inexpensive) and will have a local upholstery guy sew them together and add snaps, straps, etc to get it to not flap. I also got started bending a 10' section of 1" galvanized EMT pipe from Home Depot. I used the bracket they spoke about from the super top and just used a pin to slide it in. The mockup worked ok but needs tweaking. But I will still use the super top for winter and bad weather. However the changing back and forth is a pain. No pics yet as I got got side tracked having to rebuild engine.

Thanks guys. Here's what I'm working with. Not sure if that's a Supertop or what. I already took all the windows off.

I have no hardware or a frame or...

So I have to make a hoop for the rear support. My concern is I'm going to make it too tall or too short and it will look dumb. Was just hoping to see pics like 55_Willys to see the roof line and make sure I know exactly how I want it to look and how far back over the rear seats it should sit etc.

I like how 55_Willys looks. Seems like it's pretty much extends back flat from the top of the roll bar behind the front seats. Here's an awesome photoshop.

Maybe I make it go straight up then lean back a bit

So that's what I'm trying to figure out and why I'm hoping there are pictures to give me ideas. (y)

This is a good thread highlighting alternatives. I too would like to see a longer, more substantial bikini top. Maybe we can call it a one-piece top instead of a bikini?

Personally I really like the M38A1 summer top. With the military bows it will work on a CJ5.

    YMMV

Yes, your top looks like the Supertop.

Agreed, you just need the hardware. Or make your own hoops, which you should be able to do fairly easily.

I used a Tiger Top frame on my CJ6. The top was sewed up by my wife. The Tux had a Whitco Bikini top that was full length. The frames were nearly identical.

Thanks for the pictures, very helpful. I have my design in mind now, if it turns out nice I'll put up a picture. If not, well it never happened.

Like those full length bikini tops. They offer protection to the back seat. Better in a rain shower too!

One thing about my Supertop....the back lip is in the perfect location to drip rain water on the rear seat passenger's heads.

I second that they work great.

That's what I found too. Yet to carry around the rear flap rolled up is in an irritating location but only option in the event of rain.

C'mon...share the good with bad. Then we know what not to do!

The plot thickens. Looks like Whitco pioneered the true Bikini top and it was a modular and versatile item. The modern day "bikini" which is just a minimal piece with straps...I guess it's really a mono-kini. :sneak:

I do like the M38A1 canvas because it’s so retro and the early CJ5’s had something similar. Without the doors and side panels it fits the purpose of this thread.
Will all these tops (vinyl, canvas) work with the rollbar or does it add undesired extra stretch and stress to the material, {or not even fit over one}?

I figure that's a no-charge extra and part of the charm. We're awfully conditioned for luxury and a life free from the adversity of raindrops on the head, aren't we?
