Does anyone here know about swapping postal jeep parts. I found this locally:

    http://kansascity.craigslist.org/car/174872217.html

It says '83, but looks to me like a short hood. I am looking for fenders, possibly brakes if they are 11", and maybe a spare steering box for future use. And what's up with the rear LSD 44?

    Centered rear 44 IIRC.

It does have short fenders, the grille was "bubbled" to make the 6 cylinder fit.

    Brakes will swap IIRC.

Steering box will be "backwards". Literally.

I'm thinking there is going to be another parts car in the driveway soon.

I don't know for sure that the fenders would swap? They are short though I do know that. I might surmise that they would. Someone here should be able to tell you.

This is a pic of Jeremys '76 CJ7 with the postal grill, he wanted a little more room for the sb400/th400/np205 combo.

I think the hood and fenders are regular short hood CJ. Look at the brakes before you buy if that's what you want. I recall reading somewhere that they went to 10" brakes later in the run. RHD steering box is different from LHD - not Saginaw? The RH steering is described in my '77 manual.

To each his own, but I think there's barely $300 worth of parts there. Lot of work to tear it down and just break even. Don't buy it unless you're sure it has something that you need. JMHO.

All postals were short hood. The '83 will have some funky 4cyl and a different tranny than the earlier 232/727 combo. The rear may not even be a D44, from what I have seen in the JYs.

I have postal fenders on my 6. They work fine. So will the hood if needed. Dimensionally it is the same, just "lighter" construction.

Are your postal fenders fiberglass? I'm looking at a set off a 1984.

Mine are steel. I have a friend with a postal who I helped part out several other postals for various parts. I ended up with the fenders and hood from one of them. All steel factory pieces.

Some of the Postal front fenders were galvanized. I lucked into a pair off one in the junkyard years ago. I wish I had kept that set. I picked up a set of front Postal fenders a few months later, and they were just primed steel.

There were fiberglass fenders on the postal around 76. See post 5 for photos.

My 75 postal has fiberglass fenders. One of the few reasons it was still on the road after so many salty Iowa winters.
