    I'm currently rebuilding a 74' CJ5, 304 V8 T15 3spd Dana20 XFER case.

I've installed a 2.5" lift, when doing so I did not use the shims for two reasons; One when i placed the shims on the spring none of the alignment pin for the perch protruded through the shim to seat into the perch, two I did not think the shims were needed. Now that I have installed the transmission I can see that the shims are necessary.

My question is...has anyone else experienced this? should I not be concerned about the spring pin not protruding into the spring perch?

I've really had a time at restoring this Heep, seems like these intermediate year jeep's are somewhat challenging to restore and get parts for.

I read about cutting the perches and rotating the axle as well custom drive shafts, right now this project needs to be wrapped up. This Jeep belongs to my brother, it will not be a DD nor will it see serious off-roading I'm looking for a somewhat simple solution.

    Thanks
    Corey

Swing by a parts store or 4wd shop and see if they have pins with a taller head. You're right, they do need to stick through the shim to locate the axle.

Just C-camp your spring pack together, remove the old pin, install the new pin. You'll probably have to zip off the excess threads after you're done.

Just make sure the new ones' heads aren't too long, where they bottom out against the axle tube before the springs/shim/perch all seat together tightly.

That's what I did, longer spring bolts, wedges and a Tom's Wood CV joint driveshaft.
Sorry the wedge is almost not visible, but the long spring bolt is.

I have exactly the same Jeep with what I think is a 4WD Hardware rebranded BDS 2.5" lift. I didnt find it necessary to install angle shims and havent had u-joint trouble. How many shims are between your frame and tranny cross-member?

Yeah, the Jeep lived it's first 13yrs in SoCal, but the rust is catching up fast.
It doesn't help that I plow in the winter.

Can you buy that for customized applications? I have too much for certain projects, but for others it would be nice to get some. Maybe for a Christmas present.

So what I ordered is a set of spring pins which have spacers to raise the pin head, I'll post a pic when they come in
