Maybe he could hinge the rear bow so the upper portion would fold forward some which would lower the top and have a barrel bolt type latch to lock it in the up position.

    My telescoping thoughts:

Using the spring loaded buttons similar to the vacuum attachments (My mom used to have...Thanks Kirby) or even easier would be the telescoping pole threaded nut.

Here's a plastic "springy" button mechanism on one of my pool cleaning attachments.

Something like that would work, but unless he adjusts all the tie-down straps each time, it will be difficult (impossible) to force upward againts the top tension. Based on my experience with a military style canvas top.
And if he releases all the tie straps anyway, he can just remove the bow(s) from their mount pockets - which he is doing now. o_O

I vote for a set of air/hydraulic cylinders, like a Low-rider system! :sneak:
Just push a button on the dash when he leaves the bat-cave.

Obviously I don't have experience with these tops. Couldn't you adjust everything with the top up, then just loosen the nut on the hoop pole making it self colapse 3"-ish? After pulling out of the garage manually lift the hoop (fighting the tension of the straps) while tightening the nut.

Sure. Just my humble opinion that it would be a real fight. The rear bow serves structurally - as a diagonal strut tensioning the canvas between the w/s and the tailgate.

Is this what we're talking about?

I think similar, but the bow pockets are different on M38A1. Rear is rigid.

No big thing, that is a captive nut, to receive the OEM q/r thumbscrew. In any case the pocket secures the bow even without a fastener.

I think some sort of a hyperextended hinge in the middle of each side of the bow would be the ticket. Think in the style of drop-leaf table hardware. Pull on it to release, push it back to snap it right back into place.
How? I'll leave that up to the rest of you to figure out. ;):p

I like the hinge idea too, although unless it "collapsed" the bow it would mean releasing all the tie straps. Those canvas tops create a deep pocket at the top-rear which the bow is very snug in.

So I'm back to the remote controlled hydraulic rams.

George must dread waking up to find all our posts.

    Only kidding !
Focker's idea is the best and most practical, well done bud!
What size would the bolt be to secure the hoop on the outside?
And for all you razzers out there, every dog has his day!

    Which one?

If it's the quick release idea...What about a pin the same size as the bolt?
