Seat Belt Preference

Can anyone tell me what brand , and type of seat belts they are using in early cj5 's ? I have a rollbar in it , and would like to incorporate
that for three point - shoulder harness type . Thanks

 

I got a couple of bungs from Extreme Custom Fabrication and a set of these non retract belts. You will need the long fixed end. These are good quality with the appropriate DOT tags. Works fine.

I used 1995 Chevy S-10 seat belts.

 

I am not a fan of shoulder type seat belts . unless you also have high back seats .

 

I've got 3 point with retractors in mine...we welded a large threaded nut to the rollbar and used the factory mounting points for the lower ones. I don't recall where I bought these, but the main reason I wanted them was the "airplane" style buckles similar to stock CJ lap belts.

20" bench seat, floppy end. I am using the stock mounting locations on the floor of the jeep.

 

the problem I felt there could be with the retractors is that they may not lock up in a slow speed jeep type roll over and would not provide protection. I talked to the various vendors and none could answer that question.
That's why I went with the fixed. You are pretty much belted in.

 

I agree . I only have lap belts right now , and don't feel very comfortable with that big steering wheel right in front of me . Also think non retractors are the way to go . I can adjust the amount of slack I have . Thanks all !

 

I did similar and used this company for the same style seat belts and buckles. SEATBELTSPLUS.COM Made in USA. Work well too.

 

I welded in bungs for both the shoulder anchors and the retractors; the belts were generic ones from SummitRacing. It's pretty comfortable for me!

Greevesman, a lot of retractors lock up when it isn't in the upright position, at least the ones I have do as well as the ones I put in my old TJ

 

Not only that, but if you find a set with the "slider" part that keeps the lap-belt portion tight when you pull on the upper part of the belt, the lap belt won't budge in the event of a rollover, regardless of whether the retractor locks or not.

I just use a set of lap belts like what auto makers first came out with back in the late sixties. My preference would be 4 point racing harness if I was to go and replace them. I have not liked the over the one shoulder and down to the opposite hip belts even when they didn't have sliders and lock-ups. All though, do prefer the older style to the newer style of three-point that do not have that ridiculous ratcheting locker in the door frame. The old style wouldn't yank your shoulder back when you locked up the brakes or had to move quickly in the set at the same time. And I won't have anything that does that in an open jeep. So just lap belts or 4-point racing harness.
