Saginaw Power Steering (pics) Please Add Yours!

I’ve done one power steering conversion that went through the front crossmember. This one I’m going under the crossmember but I'll need to hack into the engine mount.

Here’s the mount- 1/4” plate with standoffs welded on. I think three standoffs are 3/4” and one is 1/2”. Making these another 1/2” longer might be better to gain clearance under the crossmember.

Here’s the mount with the upper bolts thru the frame and tack welded on. I would have put sleeves in the frame to keep from crushing it but this frame was already reinforced with some heavy steel inside the “c” you can see I did box this section of frame with some 3/16 steel.

I had to hack quite a bit of engine mount for the shaft clearance.

I’ll definitely reinforce all this after I confirm the shaft clearance in the next couple of days. I’ll update here.

On the other end, after removing the old steering box I cut the column shaft so it is about 1.5” below the end of the column sleeve. I had a friend turn the bottom couple inches down to 7/8” diameter to accommodate the column end bushing from Advance Adapter. I plan to use a weld on U-joint here and a 3/4” double D shaft.

The first conversion I did I bought a nice floor mount bushing for the bottom of the column from Herm. This floor mount I copied from someone here. I welded some 1/8” sheet to the original floor piece then welded this Muffler clamp on a bit of standoff to be able to work the nuts.

I have a couple power pumps and a pump mount on the shelf somewhere. I’ll be able to get a picture of that hopefully later this week.
