1970 Renegade listed on Bring a Trailer

For a museum level restoration, this has a lot of incorrect details. Taillights, rear bumper, turn signal switch, spare tire carrier are all wrong. And why is the filler neck riveted in place and painted black? It’s a nice little Jeep but not restored in the true sense of the word.
 
The tub is the wrong year. Rear tank frame and tow bar but underseat fuel tank. Parking brake handle is in the wrong spot. throttle pedal looks high. Jeep soup with green paint and stripes. Vin check please!

Also note this is the seller's 524th sale on bat in 11 years. That's a car a week. He shined it up and is selling jeep soup.
 
as a original owner of a 1970 there is a lot incorrect, instrument cluster, mine has a oil bath air cleaner, no skid pan on oil pan, transmission brake wrong spot, frame looks boxed from v6 forward mine is boxed the same. I will quite here.
 
Yeah I think it's a Ren I frame, the rest is a salad.
Dash is wrong for a '70 too.
I kinda like the E brake coming through the dash (I often manage to kick mine climbing in and out) but it's obviously incorrect for a "restored" Jeep.
 
I even question the frame. As JW60 brought up, a '70 should have the V shaped reinforcement under the bed if it came with an under seat fuel tank. It has the reinforcements at the spring hangers, but they don't look like they are attached quite like the factory did.

It is a pretty Jeep though.

The shop didn't do that. It was a custom deal done by the original owner to haul extra gas for running Jamborees in Mexico.
It had a period correct steering conversion that the shop apparently didn't understand so they tore it out.
It's certainly not vintage correct, but the quality of the work seemed decent.

I’m not sure, but I guess this CJ has a “universal” replacement tub. An intermediate has “Jeep” embossing lower on the cowl side, and the top cowl louvered vent. An early (‘71-Older) has “JEEP” embossed higher where this example shows, but no top cowl vent. Jeep never made a tub with these “mixed” features.
My biggest gripe is that someone drilled holes in that correct chrome bumper to mount that hideous Hi-Lift in that location. One of my favorite features of the Renegades is the chrome front bumper. Its totally hidden (and has a bunch of holes drilled) on this Jeep.
Yes, this CJ just has so many details wrong, but at least they got the wheels right.
 
W2SNO, you to have been pretty close to this Jeep.

Was it a Renegade I before it went into the shop?
 
Quite the salad, but IMHO wrong to pass it off as a Ren 1 restoration. If were true to form I'd think bidding would be higher. That said tho, it's a nice CJ-5 in great condition. All it needs IMHO is a lift kit, taller tires, TBI and a top so it could taken about and dirtied up properly; cause it sureashell don't be-long in any "collection". Get ride of that stupid hi lift and the fugly rear bumper, mebbe use the extension for a swing away?
If it was offered by a PP at 7K I'd throw 5 out there. Should be interesting to see where the bidding goes; wonder what the reserve is?
