Vacuum wipers with an electric fuel pump

I have a 1959 CJ5 that is pretty much original except it now has an electric fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and pressure gauge...just to ensure the pressure stays at two pounds. At any rate, I wanted to get the vacuum wiper motors operational once again. Is there a location on the old "F" head to acquire vacuum to operate the wipers....or am I going to have to get an 12v vacuum pump?

Connect the wipers the same just bypass the vacuum pump if it is not present.
Intake manifold below the carb to a T one leg of the T goes to the valve cover pcv valve and the other will go to the wipers.
The wipers will work at idle and part throttle. They won't work when at high load.

That can be ameliorated by installing a vacuum reservoir canister, such as many vehicles of that era used.

A hot rodder I know installed a 12v vacuum pump and vacuum reservoir out of some GM application. Works pretty well.

I always thought it would be fun to be able to flip a switch and have vacuum wipers going with the engine not running.

I reviewed some threads from this forum...seems to be a middle of the road acceptable pressure. The Jeep runs just fine at the current setting.
Are you running a Solex? The carters run fine @ 4 PSI.

The vacuum booster on the mechanical pump makes a lot of difference with those wipers, I know a lot of people have had issues lately with new pumps but I've rebuilt originals and they work fine.

OK you really should not need the regulator then. I'd recommend going to a stock fuel pump with the vacuum section if you're going to retain the wipers. FYI I run a stock setup with the vacuum wipers and a rebuilt pump that puts out 4.5 PSI , although I've added a vapour separator for ethanol issues that drops pressure down a bit but before that the carb handled stock pressure (as you might expect) just fine.

I wonder if the pressure regulator and fuel pressure gauge is doing the same action as your vapor seperator. If we could only see inside both of these metal devices.

One advantage the electric pump has, assuming it's mounted away from a heat source so it won't have issues trying to pump vapour. The mechanical pump, being bolted to the block and near the exhaust, is going to get hot enough to cause issues :(

I wouldn't thing the regulator/gauge would have any effect good or bad.
