45 Years without an overdrive, and I luck into 3 in a row.

Ok last spring, following a 64 CJ on the FB, clearly a V-6 Jeep so not a 64 (V-6 emblems), Lady wants too much but looks ok.
Price goes down a couple times; offer 2500, Lady says yes, I go to get it, and it's a derelict rusted POS, the tires so flat they are full of water. But I paid the money already (I know right; who does that?)
I've never seen holes in the main body cowl supports it was like they did it on purpose (at the bottom where the rocker rust happens). Rusted-out rockers sure but the main supports ugg.
And an outside-the-frame bubba clutch.
I was not happy,
Someone's field and you can get the dash hinges maybe, ugg
So I try to load it up on my tow dolly with a POS hand cranker (hand cranker bends and peels off the tow dolly)
Put inflated rollers on the fronts. Get the hand cranker to do one last thing for the team and get it up and loaded
Put rollers on the back I'm ready to go
As I'm pulling out to the street to get my heads for my new old-stock 225 short block (trying to stay positive), I stop and go back to check that everything is in neutral when
I realise it has a shifter in the wrong place. I dive under. OMG, there's an OD there (now way )
and it happens to be the one that bolts right up to my 52 M38 (225 from 68 CJ). Not gonna lie, joy dance but still probably slag
Get it home(another long story, but that's the rescue 68 I've mentioned; it started right up, so I was forced to save it, and I started welding after this time I Suck at Welding)
Forget pressure washer. Unbelievable amount of build up on all the running gear)
I could not believe my luck, and it was a 225 OD. Blessed from above
OD had 2" of goo on it, but clean on the inside. Cleaned it up, bolted it up to the 52, rigged a linkage to my 420, and bam it's in.
So my first OD find. Running it now. Didn't even know it was there, stupid luck, and I love it.

Ridiculously Clean and straight 71 V-6 cj 5 on the FB 3/4 the way through a frame-off motor never started (he never tried to start it i know why now) (listed in the classifieds).
Again, price kept going down; low-balled him; he said yes.
Go to pick it up; nice shop Dudes there; we roll it up on the trusty tow-dolly. While loading the bits, I run across an OD linkage, dove under, sure enough, Lightning struck twice 225 OD
Stupid clean CJ
Got into it a bit recently. It wouldn't turn, and the head oil galleries were both plugged with hardened grease, got to get it boiled. Splains why he didn't "try to start it"

There's this 67 CJ on the FB. I had sold an FC (yup, there's a story) so I can pull it off. The 67 looks really good (really good); price is more than I'll pay (extra gauges and a new set of Cepek Wheels)
So I ask for more pics (seat frames, engine, shifters, and a from under). It's in this batch of pics; I understand why it looks so good, it's a fiberglass body.
Engine looks great, but sitting proud on top is a new Edelbrock 4-Barrel on an Offenhuser 4-B Intake. The hell.
And you guessed it has the OD Shifter

So after this, it must be mine. I make arrangements to go do a lookie, but turns out another dude has a look before I can get there today,, dude passed on it
I get there and confirm what I saw on the pics (3rd in a row OD no way)
Put a battery on it, fires right up, Sweet.

Then I learn why no one bought it. A 5'2" 60-pound person could not fit behind the wheel how it was set up.

If you have any late 69-71 CJ seat frames, I'm your guy, they appear to be unobtainium.

So that being said, I cram my big fat carcass behind the wheel to pull it on the TD, but as anyone would do, I drive it up the hard-pan gravel road a bit.
Turns out it has a cable clutch (Yup cable and not good, but way cleaner than the bubba outside the frame rig) that takes all I got to press in (I gots decades with broke ashed trashed Flattie tube setup before I discovered the AA chain and sprocket).
So I fight the clutch to a tie, but can not drive it without throwing rocks. I resorted to 2nd with OD engaged, which worked pretty well. Straight bis 2nd OD engaged, it did just fine.

Does the 4 Barrel make that much of a difference? My 225 is really good, but that was just wrong. (I resorted to 2nd with OD engaged, which worked pretty well. Straight bis 2nd OD engaged, it did just fine.)

Ok so the1st OD was stupid luck.
I'm guessing the second 2nd and 3rd were because I elected to save OJ (it was orange-ish (white now but still OJ)).
Many of you will get this; some will not; but I've been driving the 52 for 46 years. It's a family member. If I don't die in it there's gonna be a fight to see who gets it (I have great plan)
Jeep or a finger, Jeep-Jeep or a hand, hard but I'll have to keep the hand

Not trying to sell stuff (Not listing Super Dave (9000 cents)) but I think I can mention some things that may be of interest and seek guidance from Ya'll
It will be great if the pics load some are just the jeep cause ya'll want pics.

The gauges might be something that's hard to find. I don't use "Jeep' gauges, but they might look good all together in something
Is there a market for the Offy 4-Barrel Intake?

It made my hiney pucker a bit.
I'll give it a go on the street after I address the seat issue and update.

Ok, so that's a straight-up lie. I'll very likely cram my fat can behind the wheel with vid and see what it does on pavement.
Someone call the police!

I have the same thing going on. Started with overdrives, and has now progressed to winches. I never have mounted or even used a winch on a Jeep, but in the last two years I have accumulated four of them. A Desert Dynamics "Thor", a fully restored Ramsey PTO, a NOS Warn 8274, and lately an early Warn/Belleview 8000.

Jeep Acquisition Syndrome (J.A.S.) is a strange disease with apparently random interactive forces that cause Jeeps, and their parts to seek out those with the disease.

It is crated up in one of my sheds. When I get a chance I'll take the lid off and take some pictures. Probably be able to get to it tomorrow.

This thread seems to have lost some direction, so I'll interject this comment for Oldpappy and those who have not mounted their winch yet.
A winch can give you added security when offroad. That's why I have one on each of my 3 vehicles. I have used my CJ winch twice and my JL winch once.
When entering a low traction area, make sure you have an anchor point ahead and proceed with caution. If you can drive thru, then great. If not, spool out the winch and get some experience.
Happy off-roading all! (y)
