What are the differences in two motors original 66 CJ 5 has oil bath air filter. And where is the dipstick located?

The easiest give away for a 198 is the bellhousing bolt pattern and starter solenoid being upside down on a 198. I believe the dipstick is in the same location.

The Buick 198 V6 is the same bellhousing pattern as the Buick/Olds/Rover 215 V8s.

The Jeep and Buick 225 have the widely-used BOP (Buick-Olds-Pontiac-Cadillac) bell pattern.

The 198 has been covered a lot in previous threads here - https://www.google.com/search?q=site:earlycj5.com+Buick+198+V6
From what I recall, there's nothing wrong with them, except they only came from a couple of years of passenger cars (not Jeep), and parts to rebuild/repair are scarce and expensive.
A 198 in a Jeep was swapped in.

The Buick passenger car 225 is essentiually the same as the Jeep 225, except for intake manifold and carburetorn IIRC.
Buick reintroduced the 225 as the 231/3.8L in '75-ish, and it was around for many years in that displacement.
Unlike the 198, a 231 bolts in for a 225.

Feel free to post up about a specific Jeep you are looking at.

The 198 has a bellhousing pattern shared with the alloy 215 V8/later Rover engines. The 225 has the “BOP” (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) GM bellhousing pattern. The dipstick should enter the block on the drivers side, a couple inches above the oil pan rail.

Thanks so much found dipstick on driver side near exhaust manifold. I have a 54 3b frame done but have completed 1967 cj5 v6 I want to use instead of Fhead any thing to be aware of? My 3b has the pro winch in front single stick and pto out back thanks

R is next to T on the keyboard. Perhaps he fat fingered pro but meant pto. It happens

You staying with the T-90 or some other transmission?

If you keep the stock Ross steering with a Buick V6, you may have to run a right exhaust manifold on the drivers side with a forward exit. Stock ‘67 CJ parts should simplify an engine swap.
