JD squared tube bender, swag HF air over hydraulic ram

A Jeeper buddy near me bought a JD2 bender about 12 or so years back. He bent a couple cages and a couple rock sliders, all in manual mode. 2” 0.120 DOM was tough to bend. We’d each take turns pulling on the bar. In the end, every usable bar bent had 3 or 4 rejects. Those were some expensive learning mistakes. I still have a 20+’ stick of 2” DOM in the garage for the Defender cage, but my buddy sold off the bender because he wasted so much tubing. I bought the 2”die, so at least have that for when I buy one of these.
I think I made the right decision buying the hydraulic ram and associated parts.

Yeah you did.. I had no problem bending 2" .120 wall, but I can't say it was easy. I made a handle that was 5 feet long.
Yup. I have a Pro Tools bender ( JD2 and ProTools are twins, dies interchange or did) and I’ve bent a lot of tube manually including a 12 point cage. I’ve since purchased the SWAG hydraulic mount and HF air over hydraulic unit. Haven’t used it yet as I need to drill and put anchors in my
Floor to mount the bender base. Manual mode is a LOT of work.

Those look stout.. My Jeep project has stalled again for a bit. Between work and keeping up around the homestead I just never seem to get there.. Things slow down in the fall, I hope..

still shooting that old school imron? and water wont affect the durability just the finish...
No, PPG fleet stuff. I LOVE it. Aside from the fisheyes on some tooling I painted, the stufff is amazing for the kind of coatings I need. Thick, sticks to it self and builds without sagging.. I used a 2k primer that is rollable! Mixed it up in the 2 gallon pressure pot and blasted it on. Love that too. Single stage paint. I will never be a car painter, but tooling and jeeps.. yup.

The paint don’t match, got fisheyes, tub ain’t straight, got rust and so what?

This is the right attitude to get out there and use that junk!

And your step isn't stock... but I like the way you smoothed that out :D
That part of the body along with most of the rest didn’t come with this jeep..

I saw some old school builds that did the step thing like this, so why not?

Maybe this is old school build now… 20 or so years since I dragged this heap of junk home in many parts.. 12 years since I made the frame.

Made a test bend. Didn’t help me…IMG_1799.jpeg
Bent up a hoop

It’s not right as I expected my first to be. It’s too narrow and my measurements are incorrect. However, it is in the same plane and almost square, so that’s a win. Tomorrow maybe I can make a hoop that’s right.
