Decipher Tranny Tags?

Good luck with the t18. I ended up having to pop the covers when I was combing junk yards for a wide ratio ford t18. When I finally found one it was even more confusing. No data plate and the cover casting said t98 but side casting said t18. There was no indication that is was a wide ratio. You have to count the gears or output rotations to be sure.

T-18: transmission ID.
5358783: Jeep PN, 70s era.
13-01-196: Warner Gear part number.

Similar for the transfer case, except Dana Corp.

Is this in your CJ-6?

Both part numbers for the T-18 match a '79 CJ.
This should be a wide ratio transmission in '79 (6.32 1st)
Confirmed by the wide ratio cluster gear the same for this and the wagons/trucks.

No listing of the transfer case part number '74-80.

No mention of transfer case number in any of my parts books.
Not unusual as part number changes happen and not reflected in the books till next printing if you're lucky.
Number is indicative of late 70's as mentioned.

Thanks for the replys.
No Tim, I bought this combo to put in the 6.
Just curious as to the history.
It has no spacer between the T18 and the bell which had me wondering.
I was told it came behind an AMC V8

A '76-79 T-18 in a CJ has its own bellhousing, 3228248.
No adapter used.
The bell is the AMC pattern; six or V8, no difference.
Earlier CJs and the 258 truck/wagon T-18s through 1979 use the plate adapter you may be thinking of.
The V8 trucks and wagons are their own thing, with a much thicker adapter.
