Return to center steering damper?

2500hd

64' CJ5 F-Head 4 Cylinder Mostly stock.
Hi,
I have been busy working on my other vehicle and they sell a steering damper that is equipped with a return to center spring.

Would that be useful on my 64' cj5 with manual steering?
I would like a bit easier steering for the jeep.
Thanks

I would think that it would increase the steering effort in all cases other than returning to center. Have you gone through all the steering components and knuckles to make sure everything is in good shape?

I recall seeing ads for a stabilizer like that back in the day. Don't recall the brand name, but it had an external spring on it that compressed one way and stretched the other way.

Another question. You seemed to be interested in the damper in hopes of easier steering, but did not mention you have a problem with it returning to center.

The damper with a spring would certainly not make it easier to steer, and if steering does not return to center using such a thing is not the way to fix that problem.

Whenever a Jeep has come to me with a steering damper installed I remove it, and fix whatever needs fixed in the steering. The damper gets thrown on the scrap pile.

Hi,
I didn't know that a return to center damper is not recommended.
Its a stock 64' with tires that are 1 inch taller. I will work on getting everything sorted before I do anymore work.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.
