New car features

I u
I ran into this on a kia a couple weeks ago. I despised that vehicle. THe STUPIDEST feature on any car. there is no point to it. you still have to have your foot on the gas so your leg gets fatigued over a long drive and if you just put a brick on the pedal it will floor it and go full speed.
I can't stand the adaptive cruise on anything but at least you can switch to normal cruise on everything else I've driven.

And the lack of actual buttons on the kia's also irk's me...
Glad to see some of the manufactures keep both touchscreen and physical buttons.

as far as the original post about door locks. I guess if you have kids with full on squirrel mode that would be handy so they don't just whip the door open, but like 47v6 mentioned, there are allready interior door lock disablers on the doors. Just saves you a jump out the door and the wrath of other drivers horns in the school drop off line...

:D
Really, Really need the emojies back for this alone:D:D:D
I use the speed limiter daily as I pass through the school zone near me. There's a camera that'll give you a $100 ticket if you go too fast. What I do is hit the button at 25mph, and it holds that max. When a school bus or car inevitably slows down in front of me, I can adjust with the pedal. When I get past the school zone, I hit the limiter button again, and have access to all 550hp of the twin-turbo v8 :)

The turbo issue in the video is not quite on target for me.
The 3.5l ecoboost in the expedition is my favorite truck engine soo far. Just dial in the throttle and go. Flat tow a jeep and pass campers in the dotted yellows all day.
The 5.3 ls... earplugs required.
5.4 triton... also singing
The 5.7 4bolt would be out of gas
The 250 i6 wouldn't be there yet
The 4.3 ain't passing nobody in a truck
The 3.5 nonturbo ain't passing nobody, but did tow the jeep well enough.
Had a 4.0 pushrod v6 that again ain't passing with 3500lbs in tow.

the 1.4l turbo 4cyl in our old trax wasn't very fast. It wasn't passing anything loaded or not.

I think 3/4 turbo to 1 good na motor is a good ratio for me. That gives you the boost without the drop in mpg.

I used to want one of these in an F150 for a CJ5 towing truck. Then I worked at the parts counter for the local Ford store in '20 & '21. We did SO MANY timing jobs on these trucks, and it's not just a chain and 2 gears! Very complicated system running the cams on these things! We kept boxes with all the necessary parts already pulled and ready to go, if memory serves it was about a grand just in parts.

Favorite to drive. needs cam phasers done again. I don't know what the deal is but the flex 3.5 is almost exactly the same and it never had an issue. All i can think of is the ecoboost uses slightly heavier oil and it has the same oil pan capacity. I want to do it myself this time. Last shop messed up the AC lines and charge pipes were loose.

My wife wants a new car. She won't buy one because of all the gimmicky electronics that are on them now.
Cars get smarter so people can get dumber.
We’re in the same boat. New car needed, but I hate all the computer control. I guess we buy used. Even the new jeeps are loaded with this stuff.

Figure when we need a "new" vehicle I'll look for an older F250/350 with a gas engine...extended cab, 4x4, tow package etc. We've got a '15 F150 super crew 4x4 short bed now..It's a comfortable truck but..waaaay too much computer crap in it! We've had it for 5 years now (has 151K miles on it) & We've had it in the shop now twice for computer control & plastic components that have failed. Need to replace the right rear turn signal assembly cause part of the LED turn/brake light and the radar unit for blind spot warning has failed. That unit is over $1K...

^^^ and that's exactly why I'll never buy a newer vehicle! I'm considering getting ride of the 2015 F150 because of all the computer & plastic crap in it.

Car technology peaked in the '90s and early 2000's.

I beg to differ. 1934 was the end of any significant technical advancement, and certainly there has never been any finer styling.

I mean, would you swap this for a Tesla?

electronic fuel injection was an ENORMOUS step forward in vehicle design. better in almost every way than carburetors or even mechanical fuel injection. better power, fuel economy, and durability with the only inherent drawback being complexity and to some extent diagnostics (although OBDII made up for that). you're totally right about styling though.

Really only incremental compared to the development of entire concepts in the first decades of the 20th century.

Look under the hood of a 1915 Ford and every component is still familiar today. And it will still take you anywhere a car can go today.

I was looking at buying a 1967 Ford truck as a daily driver and someone said, "but what if you need to go someplace?" Well, jeezzum, people went places in 1967 and didn't consider it a hardship. Even if they didn't have a touchscreen and had to wind the windows up by hand.

yeah, i will never understand people that won't road trip old rigs. they're the most fun. but i've recently got a fuel injected truck, and it's... incredible.

I like heated seats with lumbar. 120" wheelbase,
Cruise control, power steering, abs, lane assist, auto high beams, push button side and rear doors. 25mpg with a 20gal tank, navigation, radio, abs and 12 cupholders.

It doesn't hurt when you get there. You can put down a bunch of miles without being worn out.
