1968? Cj5 Slow Revival

Hey she’s a runner again! That accelerator pump did the trick. Id forgot what as bear it was to reassemble the top end, but she’s in. I polished that pump bore some as well so hopefully the rubber umbrella won’t chunk again. I don’t recall if I replaced it but I imagine I did. I’m also going to order another tank sooner than later. The fuel in the filter doesn’t seem to have sediment but the color is dyed orange from tank rust. The same went for the fuel in the carb bowl.

For the record, the accelerator pump did not do the trick. It turns out I’d ordered the wrong pump, both times I imagine. I ran the carb body number through Mike’s carb parts and ordered the correct pump. We have squirters again and no instant flooding.
The down side is the master push rod may be a bit too long. First, I can’t get it off the pedal shaft. Second, the brakes seem to be hanging as though the shaft is too long. Grrr.
Honestly though I’m not even mad at it. This little jeep was the definition of “left for dead or parts”. It runs great again, and now stops on command.
And just getting to finally experience a 225, I’m in love. I’d thought initially I’d get it home and do basic work on it to get it functional and run it around the property. That thought process is changing though….

If you’re wondering, this project isn’t out of sight/mind. I still fire it up and move it around At least every few weeks. But this time of year it’s dark when I get home and dark when I wake up. I’d ordered a headlight switch and floor dimmer switch from Kaiser Willy’s in late August I believe. Still waiting for it. It doesn’t show back ordered in the website, but does show a very different price for the headlight switch. (We’ve exchanged a number emails now)
And man is she a cold blooded girl with these colder temps. I still haven’t looked at the points. That could be something for sure.
And lastly, after driving my latest manual steering Ford highboy pickup, and this having some steering cycles in it, it doesn’t steer half bad.

Here's a quick update. Not much.
The Kaiser Willy’s headlight switch came in and that got the headlights working, and one park light on each end of the jeep. I started messing with that, but parts came in for another project and it got bumped. But it’s nice to be able to run it around the property at night now.
And I’m just about over the 2g. I’ve never run anything but non ethanol 92, yet the carb is still fighting back. I went to for it up and move it out of the open bay spot. This time, the driver side jet appears to be plugged. I got it running on 3 cylinders enough to check it out and sure enough, nothing from driver side’s booster. I think there may be a 2100 with Brennan kit in my future.

Well after a few more rounds with the 2g, I finally figured out the tank is still, despite my pressure washer cleaning, sending too much today sludge for the filter so catch. I finally got it running killer, and took it for its first road test up to about 45 mph a few weeks ago. It did pretty ok. There’s lower compression I suspect on 2 cylinders based on my temp gun on the exhaust manifold readings. But more importantly, it was slowly losing gas. At well over $5 for non ethanol, I figured it was time. I ordered a new mts tank. Well it turns out my fuel setup won’t even remotely work, so I ordered their sending unit with return line. It’ll be here some time next month. Then I’ll reconfigure the feed and return lines
I’m strongly considering trailering it to the Ruth Lake CA property after I get the mechanicals sorted, and leaving it. With diesel here trending close to $7 a gallon, it makes sense in my little brain. We have a capable 4wd there and ready, and the family and I can take a gas saver down, without a trailer, and have a rad little rig to run around while we’re there.
Just a thought, but I’ve that’s been gaining traction in my brain.
The fuel filter picture was my little clicker pump pulling the last gallon out so from the tank into a transfer jug. It was fresh when installed The others are either fuel swapping through various holes or the jb welded other holes.

Hey the sending unit finally came in. Ordered it once, where the vendor canceled and refunded the order. Finally got one in from jeepsterman. I didn’t spend much time on the plumbing. I’m probably going to order a spool of 5/16 nicop to do it permanently. But it’s good for now and runs once again. Oh and here’s a shocking development. The gas gauge still doesn’t work, haha.
At this time I need to get the tire situation sorted. Two are over 40 years old and one leaking down faster. But this project is a far distant priority so I’ve got to do it on the cheap.
