Bringing A 69 Commando Back To Life

Sorry I'm late to the party,
Be sure the hubs are properly assembled. The four pins you see "fit" into four holes in the bottom of the hub body. The hub will assemble and the dial will rotate regardless of where the pins are, but if the pins aren't aligned with the holes, the hub won't lock.
It took a little bit of time but got it working as they should once I got the pins aligned up good. Not the best designee.

I have this set on my 71 and had the unhappy surprise of finding out how these units work at the bottom of a bad hill climb.
Warn later eliminated the pins and the current hubs run the springs alone.

Needing a safe way of lifting the tub. Had 6 eye bolts and straps, but didn't like the angle the straps were pulling on the eye bolts. So, I made an adjustable rack. I have more projects down the future so this can come in handy down the road.
1st I picked up some steel 1-3/4' and 2' square stock and cut it down to size. Made some brackets so it is totally adjustable for whatever I deicide to do with it.
added a little paint and prepared the Commando for its 1st test fit.
Wanted to see how it all fit before I started on the body work. I plan on having the bottom done and undercoated before it is bolted together, so I need to make sure all is good, so I don't have to backtrack.
I don't like the way the previous owner redid the rear body mounts on the tub, so that will be addressed, as well as modifying the front lower corners to take the 69-front clip.

Looks great!! Saw your post on the jeepster commando club forum. Yes, it is difficult to load photos since 99% of the time you have to resize them (and I'm no expert at it so it takes me awhile when I do).

Keep up the great work and it looks like there's a lot of help on this forum too.

Not sure it was mentioned, maybe I missed it, but it appears you have an offset rear axle in there resulting in that sharp driveline angle with the Dana 20. That flanged rear that Tim was referring to would also take care of that since I'm guessing it has a centered diff.
It is lined up; it just appears offset in some of the photos.
I have decided that even after rebuilding the brakes and seals and everything, that I will in the future swap to the better axles.
If I don't, I may as some has suggested, build an off-road commando rig.
I have everything for the body to build a 2nd bull nose one except the floor.

it's hard doing anything on our computer. A while back, it took a dive, so we had it worked on. It has never been the same and it's like playing solitaire with a few cards missing.
We lost a lot of its photo editing capabilities so I might go back and try again when we get one that is more capable.
Except for ordering stuff, watching some YouTube, this is about my extent online, posting on forums is a great way of getting information.

Hi, I just found this post and I'm interested. I'm in the process of going through an 02 VW TDI diesel to go into mine. I'm looking forward to more progress pics. Thanks for posting.
That would be a cool engine in a Commando. What transmission set up are you considering?

Had to move the Commando out for a little bit. I had to do some maintenance and work on my wife's Toyota, my f250, and the F-I-Ls vehicle.
I also got to rebuild the power steering system and carburetor on my 62 Studebaker before I move it back over.
I also added a 64 Studebaker Commander to the fleet.

I am working on my 1970 Jeepster and need to rewire all the tail lights (breaks, turn signal, etc). A mouse chewed all the wires. How you going tackle that your wires. Make your own wire harness or ? I am looking for inspiration or a direction. (Tips/ sites welcome too)
