1968 Cj5 Project

It was about a 6 hour job. My first muffler job from front to back. Daunting but once I began, you just keep going. Wife want it louder but we will let this thrush muffler settle in before anything changes.

It was tight on the drivers side around the z bar, master cylinder, engine body and frame. It was tight on the passenger side between the frame, tcase transmission mount. Muffler I tucked up and sideways due to length.

Real issue was the driver side flare joint where it meets the manifold. I don't have a donut gasket, there wasn't one on there and it didn't make any noise. Of course as soon as it's all new and installed I fire it up and that joint leaked. I covered the flare end of the muffler pipe in RTV, bolted the 2 back together and let it sit overnight. The next morning I fired it up and it worked.

Donut gasket is on order so I'm gonna enjoy this temporary fix permanently, until it fails:rofl:
 
Hah! I forgot that most Jeeps on this forum don't have rear tanks.


yep, as much as I would have LOVED to have a clean exhaust install like the OP, there was no possible way to snake it between the frame, clutch setup, shift rods, and transfer case on the drivers side, and the starter, frame and t-case on the pass side.... V-8 swaps CAN suck..... and with the rear tank installed, there was no point going BACK under the frame for a behind the wheel exit.... mine aint pretty, but it sure makes pretty music.... $50 Summit "straight through" mufflers worked great, and sound awesome. not obnoxiously loud, but enoug to tell ya, that aint no Hurricane or Dauntless under the hood....
