A couple of weeks ago rocnrol and I met and had coffee. (btw he is a nice guy and a good dad). When he leaned on his Jeep it moved. When I jump on mine it hardly moves. He has, i think, cj leaves in his. I know that many of you have done the yj spring swap so here is the question that I am wrestling with. What yj lift springs will give me about a 3.5" on my cj with a 304? I was thinking that the bds 4.5" lift would be fine and give about a 3.5" overall lift. Any thoughts?

Ok, I am not getting any response to this so let me ask it another way. How much does a stock YJ wiegh? Looking around the web I figure a YJ weighs about 3500lbs without a hardtop and my cj weighs about 3300lbs no hardtop, so there would probably be close to a 1:1 relationship between the final lift heights for different lift kits. Feedback?

Most of the YJ kits I've seen run just over what the say. IE my 3.5" Rough Country was 4"
Now it is a 4 banger though so its lighter.
From all the YJ kits I've seen 1st hand or driven, the SOA with stock (new) springs was the one that flexed the best.
2nd would be the Rubicon Express kit.

I would call some of the companys ( Superlift, RE etc)and talk with them and explain what you are doing.
Most are very helpful and the ones that are not you dont want to give your hard earned $ to anyway. ;)

right now my brother and i are rebuilding the six on a mtx frame , we put tj long arm brackets up front and yj 4 inch leaves in back . The 4 inch springs are like a 6 inch on a cj , guess because the frame are bent different..

its hard to see but if you look at the rear the 33 s are almost level at the top of the fram

No personal experience, but as Jerry said, Rubicon Express is enjoying an excellent rep on their products.

the six had BDS springs before we started this project and it was the softest tiding cj i have ever been in the down side was that the wheel travel was limited for some reason

You're probably going to have to try some springs and see what happens. Seems like everyone has a different setup. You can allways add or delete leafs to get it where you want and luckily springs are relatively inexpensive.

I'm running some 2.5" Rubicon Express springs, but I am spring over so its like a 5" lift or so. Not very helpfull for you.

and yes they are 4" cj lift springs, of pro-comp orgin. however i use a '78 frame so the springs are different then yours.
