YJ Spring Conversion.

    Are you maxing out that shock? Looks like it may be the limiting factor now. You don't want that to be it if it is.

    That's the shock they supplied with the kit. From what I've seen it looks like it is long enough.

    I notice that my front tires were hitting the spring clamps and liners. So I made guards for them by welding a washer to the head of the bolts. I did it so I can still get a wench on the head of the bolt. That way it can be tightened down. I also adjusted the steering stops that were out of adjustment.

    I had my exhaust redone today. I'm not happy. The driveline still hits the exhaust pipe. The pipe looks mangled. I think I will take it back. I'd do it myself if I had a pipe bender. So disappointed.

    Scott, Wow I can see why you would be disappointed ...........a guy with a few U-bends could probably do a better job.

    Cuts and collapse tubes I know it's has some tight bend but if you could take your time. It would look good and not interfere with the driveline. Not looking forward to going back to him. He didn't remember that I came in the last time. Old timers disease.

    Can you elaborate on "safer to drive" with the shackles in front? I know there is a split in opinion on which way is better, but hadn't heard "safer"

    The shackles in the rear have a really bad nose dive when you apply the brakes. When the brakes are applied the axle twists and compresses the spring. With the shackles in the front. It doesn't matter how soft the springs are. There is no nose dive. This is why it's safer to drive.

    So why toyota, Gmc truck (1972-1986) run there front suspension with shakkle at the rear?

    I've drove a cj 5 1976 from a friend with shakkle reversal and i didn't see the difference.

    About the pipe under the d-shaft, you should find another way , this way you will destroy it on the first trail you'll do...

    I have had the exhaust this way for years and have never hit anything on the exhaust pipe. As to route it another way? There is no other way to route it.

    Scott, did you ever get the extra springs yet?...............I'm more interested in hearing a full report on it's handling and ride.

    Spring are still not here yet. I've been driving it. The ride is soft. It's like a modern SUV. I really like it. I'll have to see for the extra leaf will help with the lean in the corners.

    Had Kevin fix the exhaust yesterday. He routed the passenger side exhaust pipe down the frame rail and crossed over behind the transfer case.

    Found out the status of my add-a-leaf springs I ordered. The have the springs done. That order is going to be shipped by container from Australia and I should get them the week of March 3rd.
    Nice.

    Man that's one slow boat! So you're using OME 3.5" springs? Did you use the medium duty ones in the back too?

    Yes. The medium duty springs on the back are fine.

    So does it sit lower in the front than the back with the winch and med duty springs? I'm hoping to do this in the next couple of months with the 2.5 OME springs. I'm trying to get a good idea of what springs I need from what you are using on your Jeep. Our Jeep has an 8074 on it, but currently no spare tire or carrier on the back.

    It is higher in the rear. I have a 33x12.5x8 tire on the back and a M8274-50 Warn Winch on the front. I also have a SM465 transmission that adds to the weight. I would defiantly buy the heavy duty springs. It will save you the wait of waiting for the add-a-leaf.
