While waiting for more parts, guess I'm going to go ahead next week and get all the parts blasted and epoxy coated. So, tub back on the rotisserie making sure it's safe, remove the sharp edges from when I cut it with the cutoff cutter :rolleyes:. The blaster person should appreciate that and to do a better job;) I didn't take into consideration for the "tool box" beneath the seat throwing the center of gravity off:( and I didn't make my rotisserie to where it could be positioned off center, it's Ok.

The day I get to paint this thing, it's going to be coated continuously, thus "encapsulated" in paint;)

I'm so jealous of your rotisserie. I can't bring myself to spend the money on the steel to make one.... it takes away from my severely limited Jeep budget!

I understand about the cost, and probably could have done without out the rotisserie as I did on my brothers jeep~ but let's see, 2 harbor freight engine stands (20% off) chopped em up, I also had some left over steel from some other projects, the casters weren't terribly expensive (Amazon). It took a toll on my brain:crazy: to put it together, but I do enjoy making/fabricating stuff that's useful. The homemade rotisserie will not take up too much room for storage, but it's a light duty and wouldn't work on, say, a '67 Mustang, maybe another TR6(not), but I'm not going to sell it anytime soon. Jeeps are quite fun and so are the people~ could consider a jeep that's not in such bad condition, but darn, the costs really hit hard and quickly.

I can see myself really struggling to get the body up onto the rotisserie. How do you go about getting it up on there?

James, that's a good question and that's where the Maxjax comes in handy! Yes, I don't know how I'd get it on a rotisserie without my mid-lift! I think everyone should have a lift. The Maxjax is so nice cause you can unbolt it and move it out of the way. I have two maxjax lifts and one extra column:whistle: So, I have 5 columns and two pumps, each pump is mounted on a wall vs the little caddy that they come with.

That is just too cool, I like it. There's definitely a lift in my future.

As far as getting the tub up on the rotisserie without a lift, your best bet is probably 4 strong friends. To do it myself, I'd jack up one side at a time on cribbing, progressively getting taller. Alternatively, rent an engine hoist or rig a system of ropes and pullies?

I've had the tub on and off the frame numerous times. I don't know anyone that would be able to help me, that's where "brains over brawn" come in. You're probably like me, work alone (except for the much needed help I receive here). Once I get the tub back from the blaster next week, I'll be putting the tub back on the frame to set up the steering column, then after that, put the tub back on the rotisserie! But it's EASY and doesn't take long. It's fun figuring it all out. If it weren't for all my lifting tools, I'd probably hang up this hobby:(

I had just poured my new pads to set the anchors for my MaxJax the first time I did mine, so it wasn't ready to use yet. I slid the tube out of the stand, bolted them to the body. Then I lifted one end at a time and put the end on WITHOUT the middle square stock. Just a little support with saw horses and did the other end. Then I used a come-along to pull the stands in line and slid the center square tube in place.

I may be moving and building a new shop at the new place. If so, I'll put a regular hoist in for one bay and then keep the MaxJax for another set inside and to use outside (like I have now). Makes it easy to put any of our cars on and do brakes or whatever else I need with it up in the air... and it doesn't take space in the shop when I do that :)

Wow Chuck, what size building will you be building?

As far as other "lifts", I bought this Kwik-lift, mainly because I needed to get under the Triumph but it with weight on all four wheels. Obviously it's a big lug and takes up a lot of room. But with my Maxjax and the Kwik lift, I could turn it into a "4 post lift". Notice the Low/tall jack stands supporting the Triumph alone. I had some 3x3 or 4x4 steel pipe to support the entire system.

I sold the Kwik-lift about a year ago for 800.oo
    [IMG]

I also used the low/tall jack stands as added safety to my MJ, but I could always put the truck on the jack stands and remove the MJ. That's a super feature about the mj in that it's "portable"

This is probably the largest vehicle I've had on my MJ, I don't know what my 4x4 dodge weighs, but it's probably up there.

This '72-3 Impala was a really large vehicle, in my earlier days of being an MJ owner, it was the largest thing ever. This was about 2012.

I'm not trying to sell maxjax lifts, but they have made my life so much easier;)

Josh, it pays to shop on the MJ, you can find prices ranging from 1700-2500. Added expenses: 10 epoxy anchors (170ish), I believe it comes with the Wedjit, but I don't like those. I have 3 locations of anchors in my shop. Perhaps some hydraulic quick disconnects and hose extensions. I mounted my pumps on the wall as I wanted the illusion of full fledged shop vs the pump on a little dolly. Getting one delivered unless you have a forklift would be sent to a trucker place where you pick it up, or I mean the load it onto your trailer or truck. Each column weighs about 300lbs, but the wheels make it easy to roll around. Probably between Warloch and I, we could get you going pretty quickly.

Are there problems? of course there can be. My first set in 2009, one of the cylinders leaked right off the bat. They sent me a new one free of charge. Then another cylinder died a year later(seal leaking) At that time, a replacement hydraulic cylinder was 80 bucks, now one is like 380bucks! Now you can get seat kits from maxjax venders. I found that when I went to replace a seal, the large screw at the bottom of the cylinder was loose, it wasn't the seal. But I replaced the seal for educational purposes. The units use transmission fluid, but I wonder if hydraulic fluid sold in Napa stores would be better? I use hydraulic fluid in my 4 post car lift. When we flooded in Harvey, all my tools were submerged, one electric motor died and the other still works, but makes noise. The replacement pump/motor assembly is about 450.oo, those don't normally go out.
On occasion, the lift make be lop-sided when lifting things, but that's rare too.

Overall, it's pretty neat to see a car/truck/jeep up on the lift inside your garage, life is good with a maxjax:bananatool:

I've seen em for sale on CL now n then, but they sure are pretty when new!

a little write-up on my blog regarding Maxjax

Loaded the jeep onto my 14' trailer~ ready to be blasted. Still need to load the fenders, hood, grill, not sure about wheels at this point, might look at new aluminum wheels. The stock wheels look pretty nice.

I think I paid $1800 delivered for my MaxJax - bought it from Summit when they had them on sale and free shipping for $100 and over purchases :D

I have a pad set inside and outside the shop and actually epoxy set my Wedjit anchors. The pads I put in are 9" deep to hold them secure. Frankly, there isn't much I can't do now. I have the MaxJax, a big Air lift jack (6K cap for it I think), I beam hoist with two ton fall chain capacity on wheels, tranny jack, floor jacks, and engine hoist.

Almost forgot - I use light weight hydraulic fluid in mine that I get at the AG store here (Big R).

As to the future shop - that will depend on where we end up and what I have to work with. My goal is to have about a 30X40 shop broken up into several bays and a fab area. Nice cement certain outside and I'll be golden (except for all the 'stuff' I gather over time). It will all depend on the 'new job' I'm in the middle of negotiating. Probably take a couple years to get there, but we have to have goals. :p

I'm excited for you Chuck:bananatool:, even though the new shop is a ways off;)

I had some leftover steel square tubing, so I made a stand for the fenders. Partly for sandblasters, partly for when I'm working on them and painting. The fenders don't work very well on the standard folding fender stands.

Drove .9 mile to the Cypress Coatings. An amazingly large forklift picked up my little jeep tub with the rotisserie and everything else. He says they do about 50 cars/trucks per year, but the main business there are very large tanks for refineries. The fella was very nice, but let's see how the work goes;)

I'm so jealous. I think if I were to sandblast my tub, the only thing I'd have left is some swiss cheese! I'm going to go the route that john1967 did, and take off individual panels and cut/repair rot as I go. I'll more than likely be doing it on the jeep though, as opposed to your gorgeous rotisserie.
