Worn Spider Gears?

    There is a lot of play in my rear end (really awkward typing that online)..

    Usually when running down the road, if I let off the gas, coast, then accelerate, there is a thunk like the rear end is catching up... I am sure this is bad and will someday fall apart.

    What part generally fails and causes this?

    Driveline slop...
    I would check pinion nut torque.

    Check the u joints? They will make that noise.
