I had five rims brought up from a buddy of mine down in N. Carolina. Four are the same, but I have this one rim with these tabs . I was wondering if anyone else has seen this before. I never have. Now I have 7 rims like this and these five are going on that new M-170.

Here is a second question. For the most part, the rims are in great shape, but the inside of one has some light scaling rust and I plan to sand blast that one. Is it possible to run these rims with tubeless tires or should I just plan on running tubes in all of them? Or is there a way or a need to try and seal the rivets?

here is question number three. I was thinking of running 900-16 on the M-170. I have heard that the 900-16 was only used on trailers, but not the tow Jeep. Normal size for the tow vehicle/Jeep is ??? Any comments will be taken as non signs of aggression and dealt with accordingly. :ninja:

Pretty sure 7.00 x 16 is the correct size. 9.00 size is too big, they go on 3/4 ton stuff like M37, M715, etc.

Best to run tubes on rims not made for tubeless tires.

I'll take a stab at some of your questions.
First, I'm pretty sure I've seen the type rim your pointing at. It was used on a military 4-wheeled high pressure air compressor that towed like a hay wagon, via pintle hitch. It had NDT tires on it.
Second, I'd run tubes unless there are "saftety beads", the small raised ridge that lock the bead in place. It looks like the stack of four rims may have safety beads.
Third, I've never run across 9.00-16 tires. The biggest I've ever had were 7.00-16 which worked pretty nice on old Jeeps.
Don't know if any of this is helpfull.

Yes, both you and Glenn have giving me good info. I was thinking I would have to run tubes, but was thinking someone here ran tubeless on them. The next big thing is saving up enough money to buy that many NDT's.

I think the 9.00x16 is about a 35 - 36" tire. I considered those on my CJ6 which had a 2.5" lift. That meant new rims and bigger brakes. I already owned some KH 15x8 with 31" tires and new brakes so i went for what I already had.
