Came up on a fair deal on this 1961 CJ5 - no rust anywhere - all original - only mods i see were the tires and rims and the roll bar with lights (easily removed), front seats and a 6" lift - original owner never did any after market mods and tried to keep it all original. So my son wants to keep it all original and fluff it back up however he is tall at 6'4" and its a bit cramping to get in behind the wheel.

A couple questions I would like to ask those of you who have worked on these:

Question - I have read that you can modify the wheel wells with a kit you can buy - cut it out and put in the replacement sheet metal thereby allowing the seat to retract back farther. Another person states it would be better to cut them out but cut them back at a 45 and this would work much better.
Because i am new at this I thought I would ask if anyone has done either one of these modifications and if you could explain in detail how to do it and which is best way to go ? or point to where I can find out ?

Question - on the hood - passenger side is a cut out for what im told was a snorkel set up - I look around and have not be able to find the cover for it - I dont want to add the snorkel just find the original plug/snorkel cover. Does anybody know where I can locate this part ??

Thanks for any help you can give me ..............Dan 00c0c_aWjuLRZLdE9_600x450.jpg

A good body shop should be able to do both things for you. If you can't find the plug for the snorkel port a welder should be able to make one for you, as well as modifying the fender wells for you. It is basic body work that you should be able find someone near you to help you with.

The snorkel cover comes up for sale sometimes.

The wheel well notch is not a kit, but something you either have done or do yourself. Do a search for "wheel well notch" and you will see what has been done before. Its fairly straight forward.

Snorkel covers can be found used, but seem to be scarce. Ironically, whole hoods are easy to get.

Keep an eye on Ebay, or contact some of the Jeep suppliers that trade in used parts. Keep in mind the military M38A1 part is the same.

There is a hood snorkle filler on eBay right now; item #3617 1869 0600.
I think the seller is a member here on this forum.

If he doesn't want the modified parts you mentioned up top, there is a classifies section you can take pics of parts and list the price to sell the.. just saying.
