But some of the Jeep GM-TBI conversions don't use the knock sensor or spark control, so really are just an electronically metered carb.

My point was that calling a carburetor a "controlled leak" is a major oversimplification of a pretty sophisticated piece of engineering that has served the automotive world pretty well for over a hundred years.

I use a carb so I don't have to pay my Oiler hazard-pay to sit on the fender with a spray bottle of gas directed at the intake manifold.

As much as I love the old YF I may have to conduct an experiment some day and put FI/TBI on my F-Head and compare the performance to that of a custom calibrated carb........should be an interesting project.

Because a new honda accord is 2x as powerful, 2x as heavy, 3x as safe, and 5x as complicated. All our safety and comfort adds alot ofweight. Heck, even the new civics are bigger than the old 89 accord.

Anyhoo, my carb runs great. I wasnt trying to say it was superior or inferior to FI, but that its not without its advantages. I'd still like to run FI, but the carb works fine for me 95% of the time, so for me, FI is a "nice to have" and not a necessity.

my 6 runs great w/ an edelbrock carb,,,,,heck I drive it everyday, but.......................when I took it to the 'con w/ elevations from 6-8000' it ran like crap no matter what adjustment was made. It was the one big problem in doing that run. As soon as I can scrape together the money I'll be going FI

I agree with Huddson Hawk in and earlier post, my carbed v6 has died on some pretty hairy stuff that I should not have been going up.a carb is kind of like a governer or safety . If I had efi my jeep would be on it's side more, I think I would do it ,just need the list of what to get from the junkyard.

I'm running a Holly Offroad Avenger on a SBC and can not see a reason to go to EFI. The Holley has never let me down even on super steep verticles or sidehills... I'll spend the money on new lockers and gears instead.

    Hmmm:

    Power......4 barrel carb

    Hillclimbing without stalling......TBI

    Neither........... non performance carb

    Both.........MPI

Hey TIMGR......Those GM TBI units can be stingy on fuel. Plan on doing some mods.
