I may have scored real well but I'm not sure where the transfer case is concerned. My old neighbors brother stopped by to get the shifter from the donor car camero I had-in the process we got talking about our jeeps and he ended up giving me a sm 420 hooked up to a rockwell t221.I know nothing about the transfer case (ratio, ect).I do know it weighted more then the transmission-cann't believe this was in a flat fender jeep, hope it may work in my commando.Would my Dana 20 case be better?

That combo came from a 1960 -1969 gm 20 series truck. I dought it was ever in a flat fender but odder things have happened. I would think the dana 20 would be a better choice.

yea save it for a full size jeep, unless you plan on building a rockcrawler and strenghtening the frame and upgrading axles and what not, dana20's came behind AMC 360's and a few 401's so you should be ok there

The T221 has a 1.94 low range ratio. From what I've heard and read, it's a good, strong t-case but getting rare. I'd stick with the Model 20 too.

if you put 18 gears in the 20, you have the 18's low range.

    T 221

Thanks for the replies-I kind of thought the dana 20 is the better way to go-more options and parts available.I can find very little about the t221 but thought it could save me shelling out for the adapter for the 420/dana 20 combo.I couldn't believe this was shoehorned under an old flat fender(48?) jeep either- had to ask him twice  .Looks like something out of a two ton truck. Now that I have it what should I ask of the next proud owner?(If I can find one?)actually think I have someone who was looking for one just didn't know what he was talking about till now.Thank again!
