OK, I've decided that trying to straighten my original front bumper is an exercise in turd polishing. Beachwood Canvas has them listed for $34.95, and they're usually the highest on everything. Walck's has 'em for $58.95, so I'm not sure about Beachwood's price, gotta call 'em.

Does anybody have any recommendations on where to get a new front bumper for a '56 vintage CJ5? I'd like it as correct as possible, and good quality. Also, I obviously can't replace the original rivets, so I need a source for round head grade 8 bolts that would look like rivets.

I'll be calling Beachwood, DeBella, Walck's and Jeep Panels Plus tomorrow. Any others?

Good point! Front, thank you very much. I've edited my original post to say so now, thanks for pointing that out.

    Rondog,
I remember a post here with pics of a round head allen bolt someone used to replace their rivets. Thought I had saved the post but didn't see it this morning (still working on first cup of coffee :coffee: ). I think they were available at McMaster Carr. Someone even suggested welding the allen "hole" up and grinding it smooth. Quick search of forum didn't find it but I'm sure its here. Best of luck as my front bumper is beyond repair, by me.

$34.95 seems cheap - they used to cost about $30 from the dealer ca 1975. I replaced a few of them on my vehicles.

Still working on it. Walck's said they have bumpers special made so they're strong and accurate, not like the imports, and they're $70, plus S&H. Good point about the round headed allens, Carl also suggested having regular hex head bolts rounded off on a lathe.

The button head allen bolts will be a bit larger diameter, and would probably look more correct than a regular socket head bolt. JMO....

Check on g503.com, there are supposed to be something new that is a cross between a bolt and a rivet. As I understand it, once tightened the tail breaks off to look like it was riveted.

I bought mine thru Con-Ferr in '98. Very sturdy and extremely well made. I used button head bolts on the top and reinforced with "L" brackets on the backside for additional support due to flat towing. The only detractor from stock is the towbar mounts. HTH

I just bought one from Walck's, and although I have yet to install it, it is the spitting image of the original before it went through a rather rough life. I will be using stainless steel bolts to install it. I am not overly worried about originality though.
