I started out using my dad's arc welder. Got pretty good just playing around with small things. I used the carbon brazing rods on my old car welding up the door bottoms that rusted up and flopped everytime you slammed the door.

Got the gas welder this past winter and I've mostly used it for cutting and brazing. I trust my brazing, but I really haven't tried it out to actually weld yet. A course would be nice one of these days...

i've been a maintenance mechanic for 20+ yrs now....Couldn't strike an arc when I started my apprenticeship. Now i feel comfortable welding anything..anywhere.Spoiled at work getting to use all the nice stick,MIG,TIG, equipment there. Was a great opportunity, learned a trade and got paid at the same time. Trying to convince my wife I REALLY need a TIG welder at home. :)

While I was in college, I took every welding course the College/Tech School offered that I could fit into my schedule.
