I am kicking the idea of expanding my roll bar to a cage, there used to be a dude who sold a package of front hoop and speraders on ebay, gone now. I need:

    1. a source for a weld together kit

    or

    2. what material to use (source would be helpful) and recomendations on bending it.

before you ask, there is noone in my area that I know of who does this kind of work, and my experience with contracting out anykind of work here has not gone well. I am a fare welder and trust my abilities.

Thanks in advance for what I am sure will be an entertaining string of answers....

I know you said there weren't any specialty people in your area, but just food for thought...if I were going to have a cage built, I believe I'd look to someone who races drag cars....you know 1/4 mile cars. These people will know who builds the best roll cages for their cars, and these type of people have to custom build most all of their roll cages for all types of different vehicles. I'm thinking you might get more of a custom design with someone like this. Plus they usually have the materials to do it readily available and most of them take a lot of pride in their work since it will generate more business for them if the cage gets good compliments from other drag racers.

Just a thought, but if you know of anyone who drag races, they probably hired someone local to build a cage for their car.

Smittybilt makes what you're looking for. About $120 IIRC, from most vendors.

I vote for a speedshop as well if you don't have a tubing bender. These guys are in the business to save lives at high speeds. Just my .02

$ Sink, for what its worth, contact a race car builder (there are lots in the Newport News area because of Langly Raceway) that has experience with cages...

OTOH the $120 for the Smittybuilt kit is pretty reasonable. That's what I used in Dutch and I even tested it...;)

For a *complete* cage I'd look local, but for just a w/s loop I'd go with the kit.

    I bought mine from J & L 4 Wheel Drive in Wisconsin.

    http://www.jl4wd.com/

It was for a CJ7, I just cut down the spreader bars with a hole saw and grinder and made them the length I needed. My Jeep is a 1966, but has the intermediate style windshield. I believe I paid about $120.00 plus or minus.
