When where the Power-locs first offered as an option? Where they an option for the CJ2A's 3B's and 3A's or did it start with the early CJ5's? I have the rare Dana25 power-loc and wonder if it would be correct for my late '48 cj2A?

No, totally incorrect for your flatty. Only correct for a '56 CJ-5 painted red from the Northeast. Send it to me and I'll make sure it's well cared for bunny with a pancake.

As far as I've found so far, literature starts with the 3B. If you stuff it in there, who's to know??

I know the Marine Corps ordered them in many M38a1's so that would be before CJ's. Not sure if they were optional in Flatty's or not. Good question. Might contact Jpflat2a and see if he has a parts listing for them.

Nothing ever for flatties that I know of.
Unsure myself of when they started in biscuit fenders.
Prolly started with the military models and morphed from there.
I don't recall that they were ever available from the factory in the front.
    Rear yes; front ???

They were for both the model 25 (p/n 924139) & 27(926814). This started sometime after '59.

Edit- This is for the front axle, for the rear axle they were avaialble in '55 but only for vehicles after s/n 11871(5)/33174(3B)/11870(6). Apparently there was a change to the axle shaft spline shape- the earlier shafts wouldn't fit into the side gears.

that's probably the 10 spline to 19 spline change.
I knew they were available over the counter, but were they ever factory installed?
I recall installing powerlocks into D30s as late as 1983-1984 because of no factory installed option.

    Re: When where Power-loc's introduced?

So the ones for the Dana 25 where only special order CJ5 or from a m38-A1 that's why there are so few of them.

I got a set of axles form a early CJ5 it was an early one but unsure of year 59-early 60's. The axles have 5:38 gears and power-locs front and rear. front is a Dana 25 rear is a Dana 44 not sure if it's 10 spline or 19 but considering the front is a 25 I'm guessing its and early set with 10 splines. The power-locs for the Dana 27 are a little easier to find but still not many.

    Re: When where Power-loc's introduced?

Nope, 19 spline came much later. These were both 10 spline axles, but one used "involute" shaped splines.

    H.

Edit(This is getting to be a habit)- Ooops- BooBoo :(- I'm wrong- :oops:This switch happened at s/n 43842, late- 56-ish as Oltime's reference says. I'll take his word for it that this is indeed the switch to the 19 spline shafts.

    But why couldn't the #%$&* manuals just call'em that?
